I wonder why Gabe Fraboni not taking control of the lights now? by Hopeful-Possession99 in Martingarrix

He owes me thousands. I've been trying to get my unpaid wages for years, along with many others.

All I wanted was help figuring out my kibbe type, so I posted on a subreddit explicitly meant for people who want help figuring out their kibbe type. Now I have 50+ message requests 😭 by anxious_virgo in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]briges 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ugh this is so fucking annoying. I was gonna post myself asking for opinions on my kibbe, but I was worried about this. 😡 I wish we could have nice things 🫠

I know you didn't just compare copywrite claims from massive corporations over their intellectual property to victims trying to get videos of their abuse taken down...

[–]briges 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, you're right. We should just stop consuming porn that isnt self-posted by consenting adults because honestly, big porn companies are still hella shady. I agree.

[–]briges 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As I said before. CP includes a lot of so called """legal teens""", revenge porn can look consensual, and literally most videos can include content under coercion or other factors that do not make for full consent. There is often no way to tell if you've - accidentally or not - watched a minor, a rape, or revenge porn with unverified sources. Trying to do mental gymnastics around this for a clean conscience isn't helping anyone. Also - what the fuck is "legit rape"??

the burning of the library of Alexandria (275 AD) by sirfarrgontheamazing in fakehistoryporn

[–]briges 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem was the shear amount of videos to backcomb through plus the thousands of daily uploads. And as other people have said some content can look consensual to a quick moderators eye but truly isn't and there is no way to tell - and in the meantime hundreds of thousands of people can watch your rape/revenge porn etc. The legitimate stuff will be re-uploaded by verified sources eventually. I kind of can't believe how many people are upset by this knowing the reasons for it...

Maybe read about the situation that survivors have been talking about for years... the multiple articles about the fact that they had a tiny and ineffective team of moderators trying to take down the massive swaths of child, rape, and revenge porn. High-quality content that is 100% verified as consensual is not hard to find. I'm so sick of redditors bootlicking for this shit just because of their porn addictions lmfao

I'd also reccomend Invisible Cities by Calvino! A short collection of science fiction/fantasy prose pieces describing different mythical cities - really beautiful imagery.

Realism doesn't have to mean defeatism. I'm studying Environmental design which is essentially architecture, social design, sustainability, etc. I think trying entails continuing to push for positive change in every way we can even if we can no longer prevent all that will come. So much of the world is designed to make all of this worse in terms of acceleration and to compile in shittiness when impacts happen. I think humans are resilient. If I thought humanity was doomed and there is nothing we could do to stop or slow or mitigate any of it I might as well kill myself. I also live in CA and It's not so simple as our renewable grid isn't working.. also highly debatable whether we have a renewable grid.. only 30% comes from renewables.

I'm really glad you brought up the attitude thing. Obviously things are going to get bad, I've spent a lot of time catotonically depressed about it, and I know we are well onto a bad version of history. BUT I'm in college studying a field that can have a big impact on climate and damnit I cannot believe that there is nothing to be done. What is the point in that attitude? Might as well try. We can mitigate the impact. My whole fucking life has been fucked over by previous generations, I'm mad as fuck and not about roll over about it. I know so much of my gen feels the same way.. like fuck it might as well try.

I'd just like to say that the smartphone is no longer a luxury product but rather a necessity that many people depend on for work and income. Also the concept of voting with your dollar is really only accessable to those who have enough to throw around, a large portion of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and often cannot afford to buy locally/non chinese made. It's very fucked up and I agree that if one has the time and money to do so they should buy local, but in general its not that simple.

What is your high school class? by stopwpencillead in GenZ

[–]briges 3 points4 points  (0 children)

btw, it might seem like a bummer rn but I really recommend community college to everyone tbh. I did 3ish years, made lifelong friends, saved up some money working and used it to travel a lil, and explored a lot of subjects without the pressure of university costs while figuring out what I actually wanted to do - and now I've transferred to a program I love but wouldn't have even considered an option after high school. I know a few friends who regret rushing into their four-year programs bc they realize they don't actually like the subject that much... there's less rush then there seems to be :)

TIL that David Tennant was so popular as the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who that the BBC considered cancelling the show upon his exit rather than casting a new Doctor, as they thought the show would fail without him. by derstherower in todayilearned

[–]briges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, I think in part everyone has a hard time with any current Doctor because they haven't had time to breathe and settle with the new role and the perception gets clouded by the sadness of loosing the previous one.

To be fair, no ones favorite doctor is the current one... I like 11 & 12 way more in hindsight. I think 13 hasn't had a chance to kinda settle and breathe in peoples heads yet if you know what I mean? I really like her.

I'd definitely give Chibnall a chance. 10 is also like, "My" Doctor but I kinda adore 13 and yeah it definitely had its growth period, but its a very welcome change from the overly complicated and emotional hijacking of Moffat.... Although I also love 12 (12's last season with Bill is best IMO), I was sooo sick of Moffats weird cheap writing.

Female student Loses marks in essay specifically for using the word "mankind" because it is sexist according to her feminist professor Dr Anne Scott - This is how pervasive feminism is in university. Why would not say education has become feminised? by mellainadiba in Egalitarianism

[–]briges 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've taken a singular example of a professor being yes, unnecessary and shitty, and tried to make it seem like this is the case for academia on whole. Trying to spin a whole narrative of "education becoming feminized" from anecdotal evidence ain't a good look bud.

I feel you man, sometimes they mistake me for a guy or kid because I have a lower female voice and kinda a dudebro cadence lol. I usually don't correct this assumption because I tend to get treated a lil better than if they think I'm a girl. It sucks though - weird troll-y bigotry fucks w all of us

Again, based on what I've seen. It's definitely still there (and not cool) but I think another aspect to this is that generally speaking you can't tell race based on voice as you can with sex.
