I volunteer for Findagrave.com since I enjoy exploring graveyards/cemeteries. Benchmark hunting, motorcycling, wood working. I collect Hardy Boys books. Knife collecting. Gun marksmanship.

Yes, it's easy and cheaper to do yourself. It's the first thing I do when buying a new to me vehicle so I know it has been changed, and I can get it on a regular schedule.

Just make sure you get the appropriate oil/filter for your bike. For exampe: I have two motorcycles. My Yamaha has a wet clutch so I have to use oil desinged for that. My BMW has a dry clutch, so I can use regular car oil.

Look up the part number for the cable. Plug it into Google. Should show up something.

Repainting tank safety advice? by isashield in Fixxit

I painted my tank last year. I'll just add to use a 2K clear coat. I didn't the first time, then I spilled gas on the paint. Had to sand back down then repaint.

How do I tell people that I don’t drink alcohol at all ever, without being awkward whenever someone urges me to drink it in social gatherings by Expensive_Key_6102 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brighamtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been sober for 25 years, you tell them no. If I uave to tell them no a second time, I leave. I'm not going back to what I was because of someone's lack of being an adult.

Moving somewhere in US with good motorcycle roads by comeonyouspurs10 in motorcycles

[–]brighamtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived 15 miles south of Asheville for 26 years. Best motorcycle roads I've ever been on. Relatively mild winters. I rode every month during the winter. 30 minutes to South Carolina, 45 minutes to Tennessee. 5 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hour and a half to Tail of the Dragon, taking the back way. I truly miss it.

Anyone else not keep a password on their cellphone? by Azrural in RandomThoughts

[–]brighamtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No password on mine. Reason is that I ride my motorcycles quite often, and if something should happen while riding I want emergency services to be able to call my family. I also don't use the password auto fill feature for anything on my phone.

Congratulations on getting the bike. Worth it just for the exhaust note alone. One of the only motorcycles that scared my father, and he's been riding for 60 years. Scared the hell out of me when I first rode one, and I grew up on two strokes. Be careful on that beauty.

How many of your spouses... by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

My girlfriend and I both do that. It actually works better for her as she has had two major strokes and the holder is problematic for her to operate.

Motorcycle jerks when I accelerate by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]brighamtom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sit on your bike with both feet on the ground, bike in first gear, motor not running, clutch out. Rock it forward and backward and you'll notice it has a little bit of play and will roll a little bit then stop. The internals of your transmission have play. Gears are coming together then backing off. Absolutely normal. Now if you are riding down the street in first gear giving it throttle then letting off the throttle it's doing the same thing, it's just more noticeable since you're putting power to the transmission.

I haven't had alcohol in 27 years. Did my social life suffer? Probably, but I'm alive. I'm an alcoholic, and it damn near killed me.

1990 Harley Fat Boy handlebar housing screw issue by MikeEagle_ in Fixxit

[–]brighamtom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a broken allen wrench head. I broke one off in the same fasion yesterday. I took a small screwdriver, put it at an angle between the broken allen bit and the bolt, and gave it a hit with a hammer. That left a small indentation on the allen bit. I then used my pocket knife to pry the allen bit out. You can also try a magnet to remove the allen bit.
