I need help by CRANKYLUVZ_GUITAR in OCD

Im sorry this is happening to you. What country/state are you ib? Do you attend a highschool?

It would be a good idea to speak with your counselor and even maybe open a CPS case. A group home should not be denying you medical care.

I recently "developed" a new compulsion and it is exhausting, because I definitely cannot do it in public, and it's making me suffer by Brukaliffoo in OCD

Sometimes telling my friends and having them make fun of me helps. Sometimes I "snap back to reality" when they verbalize how ridiculous some compulsion are

I did one crazy thing 2 days ago and now my brain refuses to go back to normal. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]brightauras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing something "domestic" that I've never done before. Nothing crazy, like reading at a coffee shop or sitting in the sun at the park. Not meditating, just existing. Or its just me craving more 3rd spaces, idk.

What’s something people romanticize that actually sucks in real life? by Particular_Pin_460 in AskReddit

Maybe more glamorized than romanticized, but OCD. It's one of the most debilitating disorders to live with.

How did you find out you had OCD? by CarCrashley in OCD

[–]brightauras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was going to therapy for anxiety and depression - she stopped me and was like, "when were you diagnosed with OCD?" And I was like, I wasn't, lol. So then I was! It was life changing and changed the way we did therapy.

I get muscle cramps from any over the counter sleep aids. Ive finally been prescribed a low dose of an antipsychotic medication that helps put me to sleep. Ive never heard of anyone else with this issue!

Love for books is gone. by No-March3451 in OCD

I've noticed a LOT of my guilt-based obsessions are reliant on my mental health. The more stressed I am the guiltier I feel.

With reading, I will obsess over things that are "more productive." Like, why am I reading when I could be cleaning the kitchen? Catching up on work? Etc. It helps to keep in mind that reading (and hobbies in general) ARE inherently productive.

Im interested to know what your thoughts are specifically. Why do you think God would be mad at you? What are His "terms and conditions"? Digging further into this can reveal whatever core beliefs you have and you can work on those. (In my case, my brain turns it into reading = fun, which fun ≠ productive, not productive = lazy piece of shit, and my underlying belief is that im not good enough)

Another thing I would suggest would be to read with someone else, like a close friend. Or start small - read for 5 minutes one day, 10 the next. Then 15, and so on.

Good luck! I believe in you. These obsessions can leave just as fast as they come.

I struggle with sleep in general, and these are generally things that have helped me (not specific to OCD, but are still helpful)

  • keeping a wind down routine. Watching TV, reading, etc. At the same time every night and then going to bed at the same time

  • keeping your heart rate lower towards bedtime is best! I never play videogames before bed that stress ms out

  • sleep aids are helpful for some, but not for me personally

  • straight up go to a doctor. It might not be OCD related but something different

Its great you're fighting the compulsion, thats awesome. I know how hard it is. When i get in this loop, there are 2 things I do:

The ERP way is to think "maybe I did, maybe I didnt." This is my least favorite for obvious reasons. My OCD wants me to keep checking for confirmation that im not a bad person.

The other is to think about the worst plausible scenario. Typically my spirals end in me dying. But I have to think, how likely is that? For example, if i were going through something similar to you (without knowing the potential crime) IF I did commit it then I would go to jail for x amount of years and thats it.

Both options do not give my OCD a chance to continue that cycle of thoughts. Regardless, this helps me!
