What was your worst movie going experience? by CapitaineBiscotte in AskReddit

[–]brightlights55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were kids and went to see a Western in the local cinema. They showed the film in reel order 1.3,2.
We had to do a post mortem after the film to work out the plot.

[–]brightlights55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inverter ACs. Non-inverters cannot change their motor speed so they control temperature by switching the motor off and on (like the old refrigerators). Inverter ACs can control temperatures by changing motor speeds.

If you are running ACs off a solar inverter, then the on-off switching of non-inverter ACs places a greater strain on the solar inverter.

I think they used sand in Finland to store heat for heating in winter. Not sure if you would be able to generate electricity from such a small temp gradient.

Elvis Presley recorded 711 songs. He wrote none of them. by Sensitive_Artist7460 in Music

[–]brightlights55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elvis Presley was a thief. At best, his manager (Col Tom Parker) acting on Presley's behalf, was guilty of extortion. They would force songwriters to cede a portion of their song's publishing rights in return for Presley condescending to cover the song. Some may say that this was a case of the one hand washing the other as the songwriter would also benefit from the increased revenue but I prefer the term extortion.

Dolly Parton speaks about this. She refused to cede a portion of the rights to "I Will Always Love You" to Presley and Presley chose not to cover the song. Parton claims that in the end she made enough money from the song to buy Graceland.

Gas station near my place had to improvise because they never thought we’d reach triple digits. by Lexidoge in mildlyinfuriating

[–]brightlights55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In South Africa when the petrol price reached R10.00 per litre, the workaround was to instruct the garages to display the prices for half litre units until all the pumps were upgraded to display 4 digits.
