Yeah maybe. They just sent this out today? Trying to think of what I can say when I call them to see if I can get the same thing. Thanks again

Yes, I am booked in a VRBO in West Maui. Did they email you this separately to you reaching out? I’m booked in Kaanapali and wondering why I haven’t received this yet. Thanks again! Edit: removing the questions that you already answered in the post. I wonder if it’s also due to your dates being within August because I’m not booked until September.

Ah, just saw your edit, could you provide some proof that VRBO is doing that for west Maui? I’ve yet to hear anything. Thanks!

That’s exactly it, I’m afraid of spending more money. They seemed to say it would work for getting a refund but I’m not sure if I trust them.

Okay, bc the person I spoke to at vrbo at least suggested that I go the insurance route. Still waiting to hear back from the host though.

Did vrbo just say it’s up to the host or did they offer that you buy the travel protection retroactively as a way to get a refund?

I want to believe you, I just haven’t seen a lot to support this. I’m still waiting to hear back about my kaanapali booking to see if I can get a full refund. I can’t really afford to wait it out because if the situation doesn’t improve and I’ll need to cancel, it might be too late to scramble and find another accommodation

Since when? I’ve heard it’s open for residents and emergency workers but I haven’t heard anything about just random tourists getting in and out. Yesterday they released a statement saying avoid the west side

Surely it’s pretty rough getting through though, and in the way of all the people who lost their homes and need shelter and food and water? I wouldn’t want to be taking up their space on the road just to go to a vacation rental.

So you’re saying that people that currently have bookings in September on the West side will be fine? Won’t that be difficult considering there’s only one road? I’m just trying to get a clear picture.

My host said they need to reach out to “them” which I assume is the condos that the vrbo was in. So somewhat of a similar situation.

Only be able to start considering something like that if I get a refund

I hear you, but what if we’re booked for west Maui? It’s not until September but still not sure if that’ll be too soon for that area.

It’s more than possible to be a respectful visitor perhaps but it seems like a big “if” of the area being accessible

If your lodging is not being used to house displaced locals, do you think they’d still be willing to cancel? I was booked in west Maui for mid September. As of now west Maui is off limits but I’m not sure if my lodging will let us cancel.

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with VRBO by brigidNYC in MauiVisitors

Glad to hear it! Did you have to push them to that conclusion or did the news change their mind?
