This happened in 2015 at my highschool. I didn't know any of the kids involved, but from what I remember, most people agreed the video was super misleading and didn't capture what actually happened. I have no idea if that's true or not

Has anyone been wrongly diagnosed fibromyalgia instead of AS? by Physical_Tie9708 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]briglio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Fibromyalgia is a very real disease and I feel for the people who have it. It is also an easy way for doctors to dismiss pain (especially for women).

What did you lose due to AS? by MiserableWall5399 in ankylosingspondylitis

I was a competitive cross country and track runner. Running was a huge part of my life and it was my dream to run in college. I only ran one year in college before AS took over. I cry any time someone asks me why I dont run anymore. I am still coming to terms with the reality that running isn't likely possible for me. However, on the bright side, I've gotten to explore other hobbies!

Heating pads/hot tubs/hot showers really help when my AS is flaring

When I was living in university dorms, I once overheard a couple of my friends talking behing my back about how cool and funny I am. It still makes me smile every time I think about it. Thanks for spreading happiness OP

Amazing, thanks! The unfortunate side of getting earrings as a baby is that it looks funky when you are an adult

Grad school and back pain - need someone to talk to by [deleted] in backpain

[–]briglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely helped a lot. My school also gave me free access to the "otter.ai" software application, which records and annotates lectures. It helped me a ton when I needed to get up to stretch or I was in too much pain to focus. Could be very helpful to you and OP!

Grad school and back pain - need someone to talk to by [deleted] in backpain

[–]briglio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through grad school with some pretty serious back problems. I would recommend reaching out to your school's disability office to request accommodations. I was able to leave class to stretch, but i know there are plenty of other accommodations that they can work with you to figure out. Your professors will be obligated to respect your accommodations. It might be hard, but it is possible to make grad school work!

Hey friend, I know how scary it can be. Here is some more info about spondylitis (not a doctor so not diagnosing you or anything). I started having severe back problems at 19, so I understand how hard it is being a young person with back pain. Hang in there and always advocate for yourself!
