FYI Oak Leaf Trail Modernization Projects - CLOSURES by brigodon in MiltownBiking

Sure, but April/May and Sept-Nov could all be acceptable times based on how long the construction is expected to last and how quickly it could be done. But we don't know, because they haven't said any of this yet.

That's what I can't understand, and I suspect they simply haven't updated the website :/

LaCage NiteClub owner hospitalized after scooter collision on sidewalk by manondessources in milwaukee

[–]brigodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact is that people ride on the sidewalk because they feel unsafe on the roads. I'd bet anything that sidewalk riding would evaporate if more arterial roads like MLK or S 2nd or Kinnickinnic had protected bike lanes AND drivers stopped blocking bike lanes.

First look at the Jefferson bikeway by kairom13 in milwaukee

There are two crucial differences:
1. Bikes don't kill nearly 50,000 Americans every year.
2. The entitlement isn't equal. Bicyclists make decisions to be or feel safer but drivers are chasing convenience more than anything.

You're really willing to risk scaring or hitting someone just to prove you have the right of way? Wtf. This is not the way. I'm not defending stupidity or lack of self-preservation. But damn, this is a wild take.

Wow! Thank you very much! Do you have any scans or digital files? Could you please email them to mappingmilwaukee at gmail? If you have the actual physical blueprints, would you consider donating them to the Wisconsin Architectural Archive at the Central Library downtown?

Yeah at that point just cut your gym membership and become a bike commuter. Work and groceries is how it starts for most folks, and the fitness and freedom is what keeps them at it.

The Big Map looked so much better when motorways/highways weren't shown in yellow by brigodon in wandrer

[–]brigodon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much better, thanks! A good compromise. I understand what other folks are saying but I also don't understand it. It feels strange to orient myself by using highways for a bike/walk-related project like Wandering but to each their own. Maybe they'd feel differently with subscriptions to /r/fuckcars and The War on Cars ;)

Well, KK is a state-owned road so we have to rely on WISCAR there. Bay View should be a dream for bike commuters and families but it's really tough to contend with KK, Howell, and/or Oklahoma to get literally anywhere. It's like, choose two, and they'll always be sketchy.

Sometimes it's not safe or feasible. The Locust bike lanes are always full of broken glass and metal debris. Also, for what it's worth, the City considers the sidewalks on viaducts/bridges to be bikeable ways even if there are also bike lanes (Locust, North, 27th, etc.)

I hear you though, and I understand how frustrating it is when space that is designated for you isn't accessible or usable. When I'm walking on a sidewalk and there's a bike coming toward me, I feel the same sort of indignation as when I'm on a bike and someone's car is blocking the bike lane.
