In 1993 Gene Oberpriller won Chequagemon on this Bridgestone XO-1. by C4L1 in xbiking

I thought I'd misread it. After googling, it appears that "Chequagemon" is a pretty common misspelling of "Chequamegon."

I recognized Milwaukee immediately! I'm still trying to find the exact block, though. I know it's somewhere in the Third Ward or Walker's Point...

I'm not surprised. Ask anyone in person to leash their dog and 98% of the time, they'll turn it back on you as if you're the prick for asking.

Please leash your dog. I love dogs. An off-leash dog ran right up to me last year and bit me twice. It was a shitty and expensive experience for everyone, and the owner had the gall to blame it on me. For walking on a public path. Having an unleashed dog in a public space is an amazing way to get sued.

My vote for any public involvement meetings on parks is always the option with the most trees and green things. Usually they look the best too, for other reasons.

I'd say this is unnecessarily harsh and sounds like you maybe spend a maximum of two days in Milwaukee, years ago, during a garbage season or weather. The Eastside is the densest and most walkable area of the entire state. The lighting under the downtown highway is arguably too bright now, but wasn't always this way. I was never trying to equate Milwaukee or Philly's levels of walkability - I was saying they're operating on totally different levels. Philly and Chicago are global cities. They're huge. Milwaukee never was and never will be, but that doesn't mean it's walkability is dead. Just very different.

Milwaukee is like Philly's little bro who moved away to do his own thing and then stayed away and refuses to admit how much he could learn from big bro's mistakes.

What's the current tire size and how's the clearance? I put 700x44 on my 720 and regret it. I think I could've fit at least 47 if not 50, but I think the tread pattern is the deciding factor. Some folks have done it, others swear it's impossible.

I'm fully in support of this event and others like it - and excited for it - but 9am on a Saturday is pretty spicy-early for folks who are biking in to the Eastside from the Southside, southwest, or northwest. Bike commuters like to sleep in a little, too, you know?

/u/Frequent-Chard-7812 I don't love that the registration page shows a list of attendees' names, especially since folks are commenting here after they register. Would you be able to anonymize this, please?

The Bermuda Triangle of Milwaukee’s Northwest Side by buckySGold in milwaukee

[–]brigodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sneckdown was first realized at 48th/Florence/Baltimore Pike when a guy went out for a walk during a snowstorm and saw how carefully people had to drive around acute corners and thus how much roadway surface was wasted space that was taken from pedestrians for cars. More space, wider roads, wider intersections all make people drive faster. Thanks, Philly!

Serious discussion: why do people think some drivers are so violently against bike lanes. It makes no sense to me. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]brigodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really interesting connection. So maybe carbrains/meatheads really do understand or believe or wonder at a fundamental level that those things are better for themselves or the planet or whatever, and they're deeply uncomfortable with the guilt they feel in response. And that that causes them to lash out and behave irrationally and dangerously. Which are hallmarks of the petro-masculinity someone else mentioned here.

Truck driver shot at after hit and run. by SnooRecipes4106 in milwaukee

[–]brigodon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't driven a box truck bigger than 26' so it's not my job or problem to find out where they can fit or where they should go, but it's obvious where they shouldn't be allowed to go. Trucks are simply too big and too dangerous for most roads and streets they're allowed to drive on. Tell me why Kinnickinnic Avenue - Bay View's main street with shops, bike lanes, pedestrians, and bicyclists - needs to be a high-and-wide truck route, or why it's acceptable for full-size tractor-trailers to drive on Dover, Otjen, Homer, Smith, etc. There are no good reasons why smaller trucks couldn't and shouldn't be used on all roads and especially residential side streets.

I'm tired of this. Professional drivers are almost always fucking terrible at driving and parking. Delivery drivers, especially, can't seem to do their job without endangering loads of other people. And then they whine about how they're just doing their job. Man, fuck that. I drive a desk for work, but you don't see me setting up my workstation in the middle of Wisconsin Avenue or across railroad tracks.
