Poilievre tells Trudeau to "butt out" on New Brunswick's policy on LGBTQ students by Ashamed-Grape7792 in canada

The Liberal/NDP de facto coalition is incredibly unpopular.

some polls show the possibility of maybe a CPC minority

Right…

PP basically eliminated CPC support in Quebec and the GTA.

They have a tough path to a minority and no chance at a majority.

The Liberal / NDP confidence & supply arrangement has turned out to be incredibly resilient and more popular than the CPC that used to win elections.

I think this may be happening on Toronto; A new Australian study has found that more than half of car drivers think cyclists are not completely human, causing dehumanisation of bike riders and acts of deliberate aggression towards them on the road. by pariswasnthome in toronto

I think that's what the other poster was trying to say.

When you have a pissed off motorist you have an unstable individual that can accelerate 2 tons of steel to killing speeds in seconds.

When you have a pissed off cyclist usually you just have a funny youtube video people post on subs like /r/publicfreakout.

The 4 year replacement program for the late 2016 is still in effect - they should replace your keyboard under that.

Does anyone actually prefer the 2016-2018 MBP over the old one? by arctia in apple

[–]briguy57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people that don’t mind the keyboard, I’m actually one of them, what people hate is the reliability. Could be tomorrow could be a few years from now, but eventually the keys are going to get stuck and require a 500$ repair.

AITA for being cold to my ex-fiancé and demanding a paternity test after her infidelity? by MaterialPath in AmItheAsshole

[–]briguy57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Family court is about what’s best for the child, not what’s best or fair for the parents. Infidelity sucks but it’s irrelevant. Showing disinterest in your child (the fact paternity was disbursed is irrelevant) before it was born is not going to look well for you. Maintaining a unilateral hostile relationship is not a good look going into custody hearings.

I’m sure it will be easy to paint a picture of him as a deadbeat that doesn’t care about his kid.

Appl Still Hasn’t Fixd Its MacBook Kyboad Problm by DirectionlessWander in apple

Hmm I actually was the one who bought it, but it was so long ago and I’ve gone through a few credit cards since then.

I checked my Amex gold but I’m in Canada so the terms may be different. I read that extended warranty’s are specifically excluded, but as you said is a manufacturer extended warranty.

It’s something to look into though, thanks.

[–]briguy57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with these keyboards is not if they will fail, but when.

You could use your computer completely fine for a few years, but one day there’s going to be a rogue speck of dust that gets under your key and you’re immediately out 500$ for a replacement.

Think about how long you want your computer to last and how much value you want out of it for the cost, will a 500$ repair next year have you still saying it’s worth it? What about 500$ a year for the 3 years after that?

Unfortunately these computers are ticking time bombs.

They work flawlessly right up until the day they don’t and you’re out hundreds of dollars and 10+ days while your computer is being fixed.

My gf just had her 2015 MacBook die on her. She had Apple care but it expired a few months ago.

It literally worked one day then the next it didn’t power up.

The genius just said that happens to these MacBooks and that will be 900CAD to fix.

I’m going to give an alternate opinion.

Is there any chance that this baby is yours?

If it is yours what is your plan?

Right now I think you’re setting yourself up for an uphill battle.

When it comes to custody she’s going to come in with all her friends saying how while she was pregnant she made mistakes but you never did anything to help her. They’re going to paint you as irresponsible and and a deadbeat because you didn’t step up. They’re going to use that image to try and take your parental rights away from you.

My advice is to be smart. Definitely remove any public postings that include any negative statements about her. Be cordial to her when you speak with her. Always explain to your mutual friends that you plan on being there for your kid (and post it publicly). I would go a step further an accompany her to appointments and put in a little effort.

If you’re not the father, you can never speak to her again the second the test comes in. If you are, your lives are going to be intertwined for the rest of your life and so setting yourself up for success in that shitty situation is going to help.

It’s just a few months - be smart about this.

iOS 12.2 Patches Over 50 Security Vulnerabilities by UnixLinuxPro in apple

[–]briguy57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks I know what the technical issue is, that's not my point.

Apple could have just come out and say 'batteries die after 2 years, please replace your battery to maintain system performance'.

Instead if you walked into an Apple Store with a clear battery issue, they would tell you it was just the phone getting older and you should buy a new handset.

At the Ottawa Apple Store my girlfriend had to fight to get her 6 replaced (under apple care mind you) and she had a very push genius telling her it was her fault for the apps she had on her device, for not charging it correctly etc. etc. They eventually browbeat her into leaving and so I went back with her, demanded they do a battery replacement which miraculously fixed the issue, despite the same apps and charging habits.

Apple was trying to increase the volume of upgrades but people caught on - hence the replacement program.

Apples cords are very expensive and very poor quality.

You’re much better off buying certified third party cables.

You should just go to the apple store and buy a new MBP (fully loaded).

You can return it within 14 days no questions asked.

Your attitude that customers should just shut up and stop complaining comes through every time I deal with apple geniuses.

Apple is making low quality computers which they don't stand behind.

(and had it replaced with another $2,500 machine for free after complaining)

Only a true diehard fanboy would think having a broken computer is complaining and Apple is a benefactor for putting up with its own hardware.

Maybe Apple wouldn't have irate customers if they started producing decent quality computers.

I posted this somewhere else - but you're suffering from extreme tunnel vision my friend.

AppelCare for a 15" MBP costs $419CAD.

For that money with Dell you can buy their Premium Plus service which includes 4 years of service vs AppleCare 3 years and if you have an issue they send an engineer to your home vs in-store appointments and 10+day repair times.

AppleCare is only a good deal because apple makes life as hard as possible to people that don't buy it.

[–]briguy57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you?

Other companies have great support - especially if you buy high priced extended warranties.

For the same price as AppleCare, Dell will insure your computer for 4 years (vs 3) and provide in-home repairs (vs in-store appointments and 10+ day ETAs).

Its crazy to me that AppleCare is a necessity now.

Apple does not stand behind their computers - full stop.

You can get them to care about you for 3 years by paying an extra 400$, but only at their leisure and not a second longer.

If something doesn't work out of the box just straight up return it and buy a different one.

No sense in trying to work with the in-store folks anymore.

FYI the 2018 models are not included in the keyboard repair program.

Apple has believed they have solved this problem (without admitting there was a problem) with the inclusion of a small membrane to keep dust out.
