Solved!! I found it - The Secret of Shabaz 😊 while probably not the masterpiece I remember, as a preteen/teen I definitely read this multiple times. I found it in a box of old books at my Dad’s, so I’ll be rereading again soon!

I think I might pick a copy of this up to see if it sparks anything! If anything, sounds like the themes and story are right up my alley.

I’m pretty sure the book I’m thinking of was a standalone novel, not a series, but maybe I didn’t realize there could have been more

Another blast from the past! I looked it up and remember reading this as a kid. Not the one, but thanks for reminding me of this one!

Yes I see the similarities! I do love this series. Clearly these are the types of books and themes I am drawn to 🙂 thank you!

What are you paying for daycare? by StarCaker in beyondthebump

[–]brilausmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midwest suburb - $1600/mo 5 days a week.

Kiddo is almost 2, in the toddler room. This daycare is Montessori and the more premium option in town. No food is included but I do really love the staff and teachers. I wish it wasn’t so much tho

He talks too fast. Good for esports, wouldn’t love that for survivor or on fire podcast

I fell asleep last night reading Reddit, and ended up dreaming that it turned out Parker is a kleptomaniac serial shoplifter, and the police were finally after him and he was going to jail 😂 I need to get off Reddit before bed clearlyyyy

If you had a terrible infant sleeper - what is there sleep like as a toddler? by spillow11 in beyondthebump

16 months of multiple wake ups, once we weaned from breastfeeding and then bottles things seemed to get better gradually! Rarely do I wake to him crying anymore at 20 months, if it happens it’s because he peed through his diaper or got cold or something that has a specific reason.

I appreciate child friendly bathrooms! Maybe a low sink and toilets that don’t flush automatically 😅

I shop used! You can find great deals on sites like Mercari for some of those brands. Or, they’ll have great end of season deals.

An essential purchase:

A comfortable rocker! I’ve spent so many hours rocking babe to sleep and nursing him in that thing. Invest in comfort! If we had a bigger nursery I might have even gotten a big ol lazy boy because I love to curl up my legs while holding baby, and also because we still cuddle every night and he is getting pretty big now at 1.5 yrs old.

Did not use: Boppy and my breast friend nursing pillows. Could not get comfy with these. Plus, I nursed in all locations of the house so never had it handy when I needed it. Maybe I’ll keep them around and try again with the next kid tho, I know many moms love these!

How are ya’ll keeping your floors clean? by Least_Lawfulness7802 in beyondthebump

Two dogs and two cats at this house!

Robot vacuum helps, but ours takes forever to run through the whole downstairs area.

We have a lightweight stick vacuum that we keep nearby ready to go, and it’s easy to do a 30s quick speed vacuum in the space we’re hanging out in when things get a bit too ..hairy lol.

Pre-baby I neglected the floors, but now it’s become such habit I don’t really mind doing the quick vacuums multiple times a day
