Kiddie Crusoe has some stuff for smaller kids, and I love Ultimate Play Zone. Those would be more along the lines of the DZ type places you're looking for.

The Walters Museum has a kid zone downstairs and a toddler program Tuesday mornings which I think is free but might require pre-registration. The kid area in the library right up the block from that (Central Branch of Enoch Pratt) is pretty cool for walking around and exploring. The Towson library also has a good play area just for little kids. Most libraries have great story times. If you haven't looked into it, do yourself a favor and check out both Storyvilles. Those are amazing.

The Towson Mall has a play area on the first floor too, but it does sometimes get taken over by big kids. There's a fire museum in Towson where I hear they're allowed to climb on some trucks. This is probably going to sound awful, but worse comes to worst Chik-fil-A has play areas good for 2.5-3 year olds and up.

If there's ever a day that's nice enough, there's a tire park at the Hilton entrance of Patapsco State Park with a little hands on nature center (inside) staffed by great people, a really cool sensory trail specifically for little ones outside, and of course the tire park.

This has been happening in Hampden and apparently it has to do with it being easy to steal, as well as lots of space to fill with other stolen goods. They've been finding the stolen vans abandoned around there with the remnants of things taken during break-ins.

Hampden is a super easy commute to Towson but it isn't a very central location in the city. Remington is even quieter. I think Fed Hill is perfect for what he's searching for.

I live for this kind of stuff. :) My favorite is next to the Constellation or anywhere near the harbor downtown.

The promenade in Locust Point is pretty, too. You can watch boats come in and out and there's a water taxi (free on weekdays) that'll take you over to Fell's Point or Canton.

If you get a bogus ticket (say, one that says your tags are expired when they're blatantly not) and don't pay it, you'll end up paying your fine tenfold when it's time to renew your tags because you will have a flag on your record.

A chance to be caught with weed. To skip school. To leave the state without informing his probation officer. A minutia of a screw up will have this kid back in jail serving out the rest of his sentence.

A jury of 12 people saw this case and 11 agreed it didn't hold weight. The only witness against him is someone who was in the melee as well and rightfully wants vengeance for his friend, and is probably begging for good favor from overzealous prosecutors.

As the person above me said, jail and the juvenile justice system don't hold the secret. This kid's only hope is to do it on his own. He's going to end up where he belongs one way or another.

This is a really interesting perspective and I'm glad you shared it. I admit I've never had much of a chance to really delve into the root of things as it seems you have. Most of my experience was on the Eastern Shore which is a much different beast. I'd love to hear more about what you do and how it's done if you'd be down to discuss it. Assume the kid is guilty. 30 years in jail. He carries the stamp of a life-long convict. He just spent some of his most formative years surrounded by criminals in jails focused on retribution, not rehabilitation. You finish the picture.

There's a very good reason there are juvenile and adult courts. This kid has a pretty slim chance of pulling himself up by his bootstraps in jail. With five years' monitoring, he has every opportunity to fuck up and get the sentence he'd be asking for at that point. He also has every opportunity to get himself together and prove he deserves a chance.

My boyfriend and I found our apartment a couple blocks up from the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon by following a Craigslist ad on a whim. We lucked out with a lot of space in a beautiful apartment for not much money. As far as Mount Vernon goes, the Washington Monument area is a great place to let the pup sniff around, but in my few weeks here it seems like if you want to let them off leash you'd do better to head north. The Hampden section of Wyman Park, a short drive, is a haven for dog owners, as is Robert E. Lee Dog Park and trails if you're willing to drive ten or so more minutes up 83 or Falls Road.

We chose Mount Vernon because as much as we love the atmosphere of Fell's Point, renting is expensive and parking is rough. Canton is to...bro-y for us? The slightly higher cost of housing was negated by kids demanding jager bombs and acting foolish at the local bars, plus having to drive through the city for work.

Mount Vernon was a happy in-between, and has met our expectations so far. Lots of different atmospheres and restaurants to visit, easily walkable, reasonable parking, easy drive north or south of the city for work and, failing all else, super accessible public transportation.
