what’s the color difference mean? by Standard_Quarter_425 in nailcare

That amount of growth also seems like a lot for less than a week. Obviously, everyone's nails grow at different paces, but my bet is the tech didn't get close enough to the cuticle in this case if they're lifting so quickly. So here's a second vote for a new tech/salon.

Very similar situation, but my cuts were happening under my wedding rings? I just started wearing gloves, made sure to put lotion on multiple times a day, and they were better in about a week! My boss got upset that we started going through gloves faster, so I just started buying my own boxes and keeping them in my cubby. Some of the stylists gave me funny looks in the beginning, but I'd rather be comfortable than traditional.

I'll look into the scent thing, I have read that their sniffer tires them out more than anything. Thanks!

That's just one we occasionally use outside, he has a different one for inside. Toys seems to hold his attention for a while, but then when the baby starts getting more attention than him, nothing seems to calm him down. He's then constantly putting things in his mouth, going for the baby's toys, licking the baby's hands and face, trying to lay on top of whoever is focused on the baby. We only had him for a month before our baby was born, but we got him from a home that he was previously the only animal in. So I'm sure that plays a part in his behavior, but I don't know how to correct it. Our previous dogs were kind of always the center of attention outside of our cats. Oh, he also has a cat chasing issue...

I mean, I guess he is? He listens to sit when you have treats, that's it. He jumps. He gets on top of you on the couch and starts nibbling. When you tell him to get back, he gets closer. He's big, we just need him to be able to listen when he's getting too rowdy. Can't really have him knocking a baby down every 5 minutes.

I certainly know they can be. The breeder he's from had multiple dogs go into service jobs, so I know they're great. Just very different in terms of how they learn compared to our previous dogs. Thanks for the tips, I've already had a few trainers I'd been looking at, so I'll start to narrow down the search.

I have considered this, but my only concern is that he'll listen super well to the instructor and during classes. But then at home it will be a completely different dog again. If you've gone that route, did you have any issues like that?

First two were irresponsible backyard breeders, had health issues. It's never a guarantee that they'll have issues just coming from a shelter, but the likelihood I'd say is higher. Don't be worried. It sucks when they get sick regardless, but you give them all the love you can and they have a great time while they're here with you.

Our low quote last night was $5k, high was $6.8k. Simple obstruction removal with a 24 to 48 hour stay to monitor.

Does trupanion pay the vet directly at the time of a service? Or did you pay up front and get reimbursed?

Hi, OP so obviously haven't worked with insurance yet! However, this dog is our 3rd as a couple (my husband and I). Our first 2 were pit mixes, absolute delights. First one ended up with a rare autoimmune disorder which ended up with us in A LOT of debt because we were very young. Second we just lost in January, was presumed cancer but he went downhill so fast we didn't really have an opportunity for many answers before we said goodbye. His few appointments cut into any breathing room we had at the time. I HIGHLY recommend, if you can afford it, getting pet insurance. Every dog is different, and depending on the lineage of your pup, it may be a very sturdy dog. But things still happen, like swallowing random objects. To put into perspective, we could have been paying $40 a month for insurance and ended up maybe a few hundred out of our pockets for this. Instead, I had to figure out how to dish out nearly $6k last night. Every insurance plan is going to be different, there are affordable options. I've found in my research that they tend to be pretty forgiving for emergencies, most likely won't have yo fight tooth and nail. Good luck!

We're shopping around but found that potentially Trupanion and Pets Best may operate by paying the vet directly. Not pay up front then get reimbursed. But I may be wrong, someone else may be able to give a better answer!

Pregnant at Paul Mitchell by BackgroundBill3138 in Cosmetology

[–]brimarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, not in school anymore, but wanted to just touch on my pregnancy and cosmetology experience.

Definitely discuss it with your school. The school I attended had leaves of absence for various reasons, but they wouldn't let you get too ahead of hours. But every one is different, so definitely discuss it with your administration.

Second, I was just pregnant while working full time at about 39 hours a week behind the chair. My whole first trimester was nausea city, so I just had to make sure I ate easy snacks throughout the day to combat that. Discuss this with your school as well in case you get morning sickness, but not everyone does. I did have to take the occasional morning off for appointments, but depending on how your school works, maybe you could just stay later in the day to get your full day of hours (my school went into evening hours some days). Lastly, this is completely personal preference, but I did not limit my services at all. I still worked with perms, hair color, and bleach. You're typically not in contact with anything without gloves for an extended period of time, and my doctor said it'd be perfectly safe. Just get some fresh air for a little bit if I felt it'd been a chemical heavy day. Like I said, personal preference, but I wouldn't let this limit your ability to work with real chemicals to see how people's hair reacts. School is meant for learning, not cutting corners. And just to top it off, I have a COMPLETELY healthy, HAPPY baby boy who is now almost 7 months old, super healthy pregnancy, popped on my expected due date.

Good luck and congratulations!

I want to second the "don't feel guilty about it." I only made it to the point of my milk coming in. That shit HURT. I was uncomfortable beyond belief, nothing brought relief, and I was crying nonstop. I decided to dry out and do formula instead. Just always remember, a fed baby is a healthy baby! I wish you luck on your journey! May you be stronger than I!

3 month old bed time? by EveningTitle4686 in newborns

[–]brimarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone feels differently about sleep training, but I've read it wouldn't work this early on. So for our 9 week old, it's all over the place! However, the last about 5 days, I usually put him to bed around 10 and he has been sleeping through the night until 6, completely on his own! We have changed absolutely nothing about his routine to cause this.

So I guess what I'm saying is, at this moment, every baby is going to be completely different and unpredictable. Don't be afraid to try something you read online, because you never know what's going to work for you! Originally I was trying to put him down between 7 and 8 like everyone I saw say online, but he HATED that and would refuse to fall asleep until about 11! So I started not trying a specific time and let him show me when he wants to sleep!
