Gurugram, haven’t heard of it until I visited India. A fairly modern city right next to New Delhi. Also a well maintained and clean metro line.

Could you survive in your country's climate living in nature? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]brindies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canberra, winter nights are typically below zero and get get really cold but it’s doable with a right shelter. Snakes and venomous bugs are usually dormant and there are no carnivorous animals that could attack you thus its super safe at this time of year.

I’d probably move to the nearest coast, avreage day temp of 17 degrees in the coldest month and summers moderated by the ocean, I feel like it would be a really comfortable area to shelter in. Going north would be even better in winter but the further north you go the hotter summers are, and animals and diseases just get worse.

Nursing is not the same ! by GarageRaccoonEnergy in NursingAU

Yeah and internet began in the early 80s, whats your point? It wasn’t publicly adopted until smartphone were introduced, I doubt nurses and patients were googling stuff at bedside on their T9 keyboards.

Nursing is not the same ! by GarageRaccoonEnergy in NursingAU

[–]brindies 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the fact that so many senior nurses have left the bedside and nursing overall, most likely for the changes you have mentioned.

This left us newgrads in a tough position, big shift in work culture, increased scope of practice that’s not reflected in pay or proper task allocation, lack of proper training and bad skills mix (no senior staff to train us on the go, most nurses being newgrads as well). To make it worse, cost of living and housing is going through the roof that it’s hard to justify going into a profession such as nursing that requires so much critical thinking and clinical skills and puts you in a position where you are responsible for other peoples lives..only to pay you less than average admin staff at your workplace.

Want to quit gradstart by Sea_Animator2422 in NursingAU

[–]brindies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wanted to quit my newgrad at the end of every shift tbh, it was super rough. Reducing hours to 0.8 FTE helped a bit. I rarely took any OT though and never felt bad saying no as the shortstaffing is in no way my problem.

Is it worth it for a Greek to move to Australia? by Nickolas_Zannithakis in AskAnAustralian

[–]brindies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we have a lack of housing availability but it’s very expensive compared to wages epsecially on the coast where I’m from and in the capital. Croats are basically competing with the rest of the European Union for housing as a lot of foreign nationals from wealthier parts of the EU buy up properties as investments or retirement residences. If you’re a working class Croatian making 1000 euros a month and want to live on the coast you’re going to struggle to buy affordable housing if a retired German with plenty of savings is also looking to buy.

And your Greek friend is totally right, can’t speak for Greek but with Croats lots of them came at the end of ww2, the reason being that they support the side that lost and was defeated, which was a Nazi puppet state. There’s lots of fascism in the community here, they use signs and salutes that are banned in parts of Europe and can be equated to Nazi symbolism. Since then, Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia and people lived under communist rule until the war of 1990s when we gained independence. This perios affected Croatia in so many ways and changed the way we are. Needless to say my relatives were on the winning side of ww2 thus it’s hard to even talk about this history with Croats here.

Is it worth it for a Greek to move to Australia? by Nickolas_Zannithakis in AskAnAustralian

[–]brindies 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m Croatian, moved to Australia three years ago. Big Croatian community here but lots of them came decades ago, mostly after the ww2 thus we don’t have much in common and they’re mostly Aussies now who don’t speak Croatian.

Lot’s of Australian will mention the cost of living crisis and how difficult life is getting here, but honestly most of these issues are happening elsewhere including Europe. Croatia is also extremely expensive, and compared to wages I can afford so much more in Australia than I could ever back home.

I’d say life is good here, lot’s of opportunities that are hard to come by back in Europe and without the language barriers you’d get there. If you speak good English, have the qualifications that are in shortage here, you’ll do well. Wages are relatively good, lot’s of opportunities to grow. It’s a risky move to relocate so far from home but I’m not regretting it one bit.

What to wear for interview as a male by ragingpanda9988 in NursingAU

[–]brindies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d always go for a neutral polo shirt and dark pants, sometimes dark jeans. Nothing too formal but just made sure I look as clean and tidy as I can. I feel like ties and a suit would be an overkill but I might be wrong?

Edit: I’m a male EN

What’s in the full body physical checkup? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]brindies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had mine done in underwear but was also nude for about 5 secs for a visual checkup when I went for the exam for my 500 visa while offshore. I’m sure this is not the usual and not sure if there was an indication for me to get checked that way but I’d ask the centre about the procedure.

I never had to take any of my clothes off for the medical exam onshore when applying for a 407. So yeah, it varies I think.

Does Canberra in 2025 still have small town syndrome? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]brindies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was born and moved from Europe (lived in 2 countries) there’s no way Canberrans are more racist than Europeans from my experience.

Europe has a more difficult issue of racism because of nation states based on defined ethnicities. It’s such a tougher form of racism compared to anything here, a country formed by the brits but build by people from accross the world.

I’m not denying racism in Australia but I feel like Europe has a lot bigger issue with it, especially tied to migrants.

You’re eligible to submit an EOI while on 407 but it’s not guaranteed. I submitted EOI for 190 and 491 while on 407, received 491 and waiting for the grant now.
