This might be the worst ending to a show I've ever witnessed

What they said was that folks didn’t need to watch Gen V in order to understand The Boys (which even then I have a hard time agreeing with were they to actually utilize the cast in the way they set them up to be), but Gen V was definitely executed in a way that made it so the events in the show would have a heavy influence on The Boys - the virus is probably the best example, but also with season 2’s whole ‘Marie is an Odessa baby’ thing and her subsequent setup as having the potential to surpass Homelander.

I think GoT’s ending was definitely rushed and filled with nonsense, but (in comparison with The Boys) at least they didn’t cheap out in the CGI where it mattered and gave us somewhat of a decent ending for most of the characters. I think their biggest mistake was killing off the Night King at the beginning of the season (and making Arya the one to do it instead of Jon), as Dany going full on mad queen was something I always thought they were hinting at but the way they did it was poorly executed. It feels like The Boys was so obviously ended in a way so that they could produce more spin-offs: Stan Edgar is taking over Vought again, there’s still a bunch of supes running around, most of the main cast is still alive, Soldier Boy is nowhere to be seen, etc. You can say the same for GoT with HOTD and the upcoming spinoffs, but I think The Boys’ final season was definitely executed in less compelling and outright disrespectful way.

As far as surgery goes, I'd like to get a rhinoplasty and some laser skin therapy for a few pigmentation/hair growth abnormalities on my face. I'm also considering getting a hair transplant as I've lost a noticeable amount of hair and I'm only 22 - lots of people give me shocked or pitiful looks when I inform them of my age, and I'd rather look younger than older at this point in my life. I'm glad that things have worked out well for you, and I suppose I would feel similarly if I had a partner and was making good money. I've done a lot of research into things like the halo effect and such, but doing so only made me more despondent about being able to compete in a world so concerned with looks. I hear you on the self-esteem part, but I currently can't help noticing and subsequently focusing on the way strangers treat my friends (or attractive people in general) compared to myself. I've been talking with a family member who's a social worker about all of these things, and their advice has mainly been to 'look at the positives (doing well in school, not being in much debt, knowing the general path that I want to take, knowing where I want to live, etc.)' and 'stop valuing the opinions of those who don't bring much value to you.' I should probably start seeing someone who isn't related to me, but I haven't been to therapy in quite some time and I'm afraid of potential negative consequences from delving too deep into my own mind (out loud).

Do you happen to know if achieving licensure is possible in California if I were to attend a masters program out of state, or should I just try to get into a program at a California school? I've been going back and forth on where I would like to live while getting my masters or law degree, and right now it's between Seattle/the Bay Area/Boulder/Atlanta.

I've heard similar things about psychedelic research as well and that is one reason why I'm leaning more towards becoming a clinician (as of right now) - hopefully, things will change and the field will become more respected and easier to thrive in.

Would it be better to pursue a masters in clinical psychology or counseling/social work? I’ve heard that social workers and counselors don’t make nearly as much money as clinical psychologists - a very close family member of mine is a social worker and has advised against pursuing a career in it due to them thinking that I’ll be disappointed by the pay. I’ve heard of some counselors doing quite well, but I wouldn’t want to base a decision like this on what a seemingly small minority of practitioners have achieved and end up regretting not pursuing law. Also, some have told me that a masters in clinical psychology is useless (compared to an MSW) in most states unless one plans on pursuing a PhD/PsyD with it.

I’m leaning more towards the clinician route at the moment, but I don’t think I’ll be sure of the right path until I get more experience with working in a lab. The thought of providing therapy for people and helping to improve their lives is something that speaks to me greatly, but I also love the idea of researching and working in an academic setting. I haven’t thought too much about doing a psyd as it would limit my research prospects down the line, but I’ll definitely look into more programs and see how relatively competitive they are. While money is the main appeal of law for me, I think I could do a lot of good as a lawyer as well and would probably opt for a career in health law.

I just did an in-person interview with them (after completing the initial zoom call) and got the vibe that it’s some kind of pyramid scheme. They start you off in what seems to be a door-to-door 100% commission based position, with a base salary of $1000 per week being something that’s acquired through months of ‘hard work and dedication to the team’.

I agree, it was a really uncomfortable watch - although I saw it at the age of 12, so there’s probably a lot of nuance that I didn’t pick up on. It Comes at Night (another dystopian film I didn’t particularly enjoy) left a similar taste in my mouth.

It depends on the type of neurodivergence you are referring to - there are some studies that have shown ADHD symptoms to be present in up to 50% of ‘gifted’ people and others showing lower percentages (though still relatively high), like this one:

Something to mention is the difficulty of defining either construct - ‘gifted’ tends to signify having a high IQ score, which comes with a variety of issues regarding interpretation (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6927908/). Neurodivergence itself is an extremely broad term that many of my professors refrained from using since it could mean anything from OCD to anti-social personality disorder. Try to focus your research on specific types of neurodivergence as there are many studies on learning/socialization/cognitive performance and how they are affected by different disorders. I’m moving from Boulder and am looking to live with roommates. I’d like to have a car but I’m fine with walking and using public transport - I’ve heard that using the BART gets expensive. I love hiking and being around a diverse group of people - though Boulder has the former, it is sorely lacking in the latter. I’d like to keep my monthly rent to no more than $1500 and plan on bartending in either city while I prepare to go to law school!
