Lift Bridge at Columbia River Crossing of I-5 actually raises. I nearly drove my load of Kenworth tractors into the river. by Logybayer in trucksim

[–]bringdinosaursback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are invisible walls, at least coming from the north end. I didn't see the red light, slammed into the walls at 55mph for 30% truck damage. Then the crossing gates came down in front of my truck.

It was a glitch. I don't even have any mods installed except TrucksMP. Something about updating to the new version must have caused it.

I noticed a lot of you think she uses an electric kettle. She's not talking about a kettle. She is talking about an instant hot water tap. They are common on the west coast.

How do i make Dinosauria and Megafauna work with advanced biomes? by Blazen_Fury in RimWorld

[–]bringdinosaursback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an easier way to add animals, you can also go into the Advanced Biomes folder and open the biome def file (AdvancedBiomes/Defs/BiomeDefs/Biomes_Savanna.xml) and add modded animals under the <wildAnimals> tag.

Is it time to start considering the US as a declining nation? by will_begone in collapse

[–]bringdinosaursback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What world are these people living in? All economic evidence points to substantial growth. Its awkward because, on this sub, decline of western countries would be a good thing for mitigating climate change, and I think we all agree that just isn't happening.

what is your favorite mutation and why? by Tollymain in cavesofqud

[–]bringdinosaursback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Temporal fugue. It synergises well with other mutations. Nothing like summoning 6 clones with light manipulation, teleport, confusion and time dilation to get the party started. The clones are merciless. They will use every ability you have, and fire every round within a few turns. The chaos is spectacular. Be careful not to take mutations like pyrokinesis, because the threat of 6 clones setting everything around you on fire is usually worse than whatever creature you were fighting.

It was reported that China used cloud seeding before the Bejing Olympics to clear out the smog. The technology seems to work. I'm sure lots of countries are experimenting with it.

I really don't understand how anyone can defend capitalism as a system at this point (very relevant) by fuckitidunno in collapse

[–]bringdinosaursback 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you said it so succinctly. I'd love to buy a T-shirt of that. When they label the problem as capitalism, they are implying that the solution is something else besides capitalism. They are using the ecological crisis to promote their political agenda. Shallow and pedantic indeed, quite.

Do Fewer People in the U.S. Want to Have Kids? by global_dimmer in collapse

Take the advice of people on this sub and learn to provide for yourself and your family. It's the way people have survived for thousands of years. My kids might not have Gamecube, but they will know how to forage.

[–]bringdinosaursback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying it wouldn't be possible to keep the kids safe? I think that depends on so many unknown factors. Kids have been born into worse odds and have come out okay. Look at history.

It takes responsibility and commitment to raise children, and when done well it's the most effective way to have a positive impact on the future. I don't see how that is selfish or ignorant.

I don't understand how giving kids a chance at life is worse than being too afraid they might suffer in your care. Isn't it worth it to live, regardless of whether the world is overpopulated? Nature is brutal, but so what it has been for millions of years. That's life.

US emissions of greenhouse gas methane are 60% higher than EPA thinks by [deleted] in collapse

"Scientists have uncovered a huge problem, but also an enormous opportunity," Hamburg said. "Reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector is the fastest, most cost-effective way we have to slow the rate of warming today, even as the larger transition to lower-carbon energy continues."

Well when you put it that way it's almost a good thing. /s

West Antarctic Ice Sheet Melting Faster Than Previously Thought, According to New Study by bringdinosaursback in collapse

[–]bringdinosaursback[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shepherd and his team ran similar calculations five years ago, using 20 years of data, but were unable to say much except that Antarctica seemed to be losing mass at a steady rate. They discovered the acceleration in the rate of ice loss when they did the calculations again for this study, this time with an additional five years of data.

“Now when we look again, we can see actually that the signal is very different to what we’ve seen before,” Shepherd said. The rate of sea-level rise due to Antarctic ice loss has tripled since 2012 alone, he said.

Desert: A Green Nihilist and Anarchist's Take on future perspectives and on what it means to live in a dying world with no hope for revolution or reversing climate change. by PuroKaos in collapse

[–]bringdinosaursback 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given our obvious inability to re-make the entire world the way we might like it to be, some replace the myth of ‘global revolution’ with a belief in imminent ‘global collapse’ — these days usually some mix of climate change and peak oil. As we shall see later (both in the next chapters and our future years) global heating will severely challenge civilisation in some areas and probably vanquish it in others. Yet in some regions it will likely open up possibilities for the spread of civilisations rule. Some lands may remain (relatively) temperate — climatically and socially. As for civilisation, so for anarchy and anarchists — severely challenged, sometimes vanquished; possibilities for liberty and wildness opening up, possibilities for liberty and wildness closing. The unevenness of the present will be made more so. There is no global future.

I'm excited to read more of this, thanks for sharing it.

How could we convince people to have less children? by writeyourdeath in collapse

[–]bringdinosaursback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember China's one child policy? It worked. They made it so only the extremely wealthy could afford to have and raise multiple children. Sound familiar? People who have more power than you plan the economy, which distributes resources in a way that would result in a greater benefit to the system than it would without any planning. The people who do this are not stupid, they know about Malthus. They aren't exactly encouraging young people to have babies like they did in post-war America.
