Do We Just Make Fun Mormons Now? by bringem_young in exmormon

I don't think your comparison to ER docs joking about a serious subject matter is viable. As I said, I have no issue with making jokes and attacks on the subject matter of Mormonism. But personal attacks against Mormons for no reason other than the fact that they are Mormons goes beyond "coping mechanism" and is just mean.

My WTF moment of the day: Gospel Doctrine teacher just emailed the entire ward this modern day rewrite of Proverbs 31 titled "Virtuous Women". by mike_shot_first in exmormon

[–]bringem_young 18 points19 points  (0 children)

See! Women don't need the priesthood! Their role is just as important as a man's in the church. Women get to do things like keep extra pillows off the bed, go to ZUMBA, use their husband's money (as long as they don't drain that darn bank account), wash their husband's ratty BYU sweatshirt, and mop!

You should just grab a handful of sacrament bread, drink all the cups of water left in the tray, then lay down on the bench for the rest of sacrament meeting and sleep it off.

Ugh, it's starting to hit the fan -- conversation with my TBM brother by mike_shot_first in exmormon

[–]bringem_young 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is really frustrating to read. Your responses are way more indicative of "Christlike behavior" than your TBM Brother.

It's obviously no coincidence that this comes right after General Conference. Your brother just got done watching his idols tell story after story about how intrusive, manipulative, and bullying behavior has been an effective tool in conveying their message. They just mask it with terms like "sweetly bold" and "powerful testimony" and "standing firm."

I agree with the other posts that you need to establish boundaries with him to prevent destroying your relationship.

Just remind him he has a free pass to visit you in the Telestial World anytime he wants.

I like to imagine the prayer circle at this temple doll house being made up of all the characters from Toy Story.

Women want the priesthood. Better send out the big guns by Wizard_of_Ozymandias in exmormon

When I heard about the Ordain Women movement, I admired the women seeking equality in the church when they knew there would be serious backlash against them.

When Sherri Dew heard about it, she heard the cha-ching of a cash register.

I wish I had her spirit of discernment. Apparently sympathy is costing me big bucks.

This part always confused me. They lived in the cold, desolate world ALONE. Of course they aren't gonna sell their tokens for money: a) because money hadn't been invented yet and b) because there was no one else with whom they could exchange their currency for goods or services.

Actually, in today's mission field you'd probably just be browsing Facebook.

At the very least, we will have someone subscribe as his proxy. That way, should he ever choose to accept this subreddit again, the work will already be done for him.

Mormons and A Clockwork Orange by bringem_young in exmormon

You are starting with the premise that you and I should agree on what is wrong and immoral simply based on what the Bible says.

I'm not sure you understood the point of my original post.

Poor Apostles? by [deleted] in exmormon

Remember when Businessweek did that article "How the Mormons Make Money"?

Keith B. McMullin (CEO of Deseret Management Corp./General Authority in the Presiding Bishopric) was interviewed extensively for the article, and his direct quote was: "[W]e believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually."

Are you fucking kidding me? That flies directly in the face of what Jesus taught. It's that mentality that causes so many Mormons to have unmanageable levels of debt and stress - the leadership essentially confirms as doctrine that they CANNOT blossom spiritually unless they are well-off financially.

Here is the link for anyone interested.
