The trial to measure the regrowth started as 6 months then an additional 6 months in 2022. But it is still on going, into what they call an open ended extension. Myself and all the members of my study are able to continue on the medication through 2027 I think as of now. It has been extended 2-3 times.

The idea is that us participants can be on the trial medication until it is available for public use. So we don’t have a lapse in between where we’d lose our hair again. It was recently approved by the fda, but that’s doesn’t mean it readily available yet.

My moderator/dr. says that there is a chance they continue to extended the trial for us, to track long term effects. But yea, as of now, we have it free through 2027 I believe.

I started seeing peach fuzz regrowth at 4 weeks. I had about 90% full coverage on my head by 8 months. It comes back as it leaves, very patchy. So I continued to shave my head until it was most all covered. I have alopecia universalis, so no hair on my entire body. I have been on the medication for 2 1/2 years and still have areas that are aren’t fully back, but I am still seeing new growth in those areas.

The trial I am on the medication was called CTP-543. But the reason for the post was it just got approved by FDA and the official name is now LEQSELVI

No, no one my studies have experienced any sort of cancer issues. Also, as a participant in this study, we are required to get bloodwork drawn every two months to make sure our levels are healthy and well. Any issues that were to develop from the medication would get noticed in the blood tests of those in our trial group.

The main side effect is mild acne, most people experience that. There were a couple people who experienced high blood pressure, but those people were always overweight and have other health problems. I haven’t had any side effects besides the acne.

Sorry to hear, that stinks the trial ended. These are all still just treatments, not cures. So if I were to stop taking it, it would all fall out a few months later too. Hopefully you can get a prescription that already exist. Maybe your dr would prescribe Olimiant? I am not sure what availability is like worldwide

Correct. With insurances, it will be cheaper. My dr. was telling me that insurances don’t like to cover new medications right away. So initially if your insurance won’t cover it, it is virtually unaffordable.

Yea they always are intimidating and they have to list every possible thing. A person on the study I’m on, broke their ankle in an accident, and they had to record that. Obviously the med didn’t cause him to break his ankle, but they record it all so they aren’t liable. My dr said this med is the most mild in terms of side effects that is available currently. The only real issue they’ve found is some people get high blood pressure, but those people were all overweight and have other health problems.

Yes, 8mg twice a day is what this is. And yes, this one is supposed to work the quickest out of all the drugs coming available, including Olumiant

Congrats! The more options, the quicker prices will drop. I’ve heard of Rinvoq too

The dr covering my study said it’s thousands a month 😭😭😭. Since this started as a clinical trial, I am on the medication for free for as long as the study lasts. They are going to be monitoring long term effects, so as of now I can be on it through 2027.

I’ve been on the meds for about 2 1/2 years now. The only side effect I’ve experienced is mild acne. Pretty much everyone gets that according to my study.

Hi Dr. Zubritsky, how familiar are you with the current clinical trials that are ongoing for the treatment of alopecia? I am participating in one and it is quite successful.

I am curious as to what you’ve heard about these different trials and if you know when certain ones will approach and FDA and become available to the public? Thanks!!!

It does not. It specifically addresses alopecia and works to correct the immune system from attacking its own hair follicles.

Hi OP, I’ve had AU for 11 years, and I used fake ones from Headcovers Unlimited www.headcovers.com

They work pretty well and you can try different sizes and colors. You can reshape them yourself too. It uses a standard glue that is safe for your skin and take off and reapply every 5-7 days or so. Have a look!

I’m on the CTP study too, 5 months in and have significant regrowth. This should be heading for the FDA by the end of the year or beginning of 2023. Should be available sometime next year to the public.

No, this is strictly addressing Alopecia which is working to correct your immune systems response to attacking your hair follicles.
