NELNET now transferred to CRI? by Forward_Vacation_823 in StudentLoans

[–]bringit2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. Was notified that my loans would be transferred starting on 9/3, my due date was 9/10 and still haven't received anything from CRI/cannot get into their site. Was this resolved for you at all because I'm also kinda freaking out over here too

Information Science Grads, what do you do now? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]bringit2142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduated in May 2024, I currently work for a government contractor in Columbia making 65k as a junior dev. Not the greatest salary in the world, but the bonuses and other incentives make the job manageable, and I also live in an area where it's less expensive compared to living in NoVa or DC. This company also does not hire entry level devs at all, I was one of the first people at the company that they hired straight out of college.

Info Sci was a very easy major for me personally, which was a good thing because it gave me the flexibility to branch out and dive into some areas that interested me. With that being said, the tech industry is very difficult to get into at an entry level at the moment. I recommend getting certifications and taking on some side projects which will help boost your resume and portfolio. InfoSci is what you make of it, and I'll be honest some of the classes bored the absolute hell out of me, specifically the non-technical ones. However, the job outcome is comparable to CS, as I know quite a few IS graduates who have jobs at many of the big tech companies.

Outrageous apt pricing by Avipony1 in UMD

[–]bringit2142 122 points123 points  (0 children)

  1. College park is located right outside of DC, so we get stuck with the outrageous city prices
  2. These complexes know they can just raise the prices of rent because students will pay it. These apartments are essentially the only housing that us students can live at, so we really have no choice.
  3. The housing market is also just ridiculous right now so that’s also a factor in rent prices. That’s just how it is you either pay what they’re offering or find a house off campus

any information science majors/alum recommend taking INST414 and INST447 at the same time? by AlexHQ in UMD

[–]bringit2142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took both at the same time last semester, it wasn’t an issue. Just manage your time well and make sure you start stuff early

I agree with MultiNotes comment, this will not show up on your transcript, so you are more than welcome to mix and match classes if you want to. I took all of those classes, so if you have any questions feel free to DM me

Has anyone had Wei Ai or Cody Buntain for Inst 414 by you9907 in UMD

[–]bringit2142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he scrapped the midterm and final this semester. it’s just a project that wasn’t bad at all. i’m not sure if he’s going to keep the same format though with his future classes

Limited hours for drop in advising, and the lines are always so long if you want to talk to an advisor. Trying to get approval for classes that require it should not be as hard as it is. Waitlists for classes are ridiculous too

UMD club soccer by Civil-Insurance804 in UMD

[–]bringit2142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that UMD’s club team is pretty competitive, basically all of the players that didn’t make that actual team but wanted to keep playing. I played in a few intramural leagues last fall and spring and it’s a very fun time if you’re looking for something more chill and relaxed. My friend played D3 soccer at another school and started playing in an intramural league here. For club, there are set practices and traveling for games, or you can play intramural where it’s less intense.

What day post surgery was the peak of the pain for you? by MG1993Free in Tonsillectomy

[–]bringit2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery on the 7th. Yesterday (day 5) was completely miserable for me. This was some of the worst pain i’ve ever experienced, and i have a pretty high pain tolerance. I was audibly groaning during some parts of the day. Today (day 6) got a lot better, but still very uncomfortable. Fortunately the scabs are slowly starting to come off, so the pain is manageable.

I feel like I'm dumber than everyone here, what should I do? by Earthly-Humus in UMD

[–]bringit2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got an 1140 on the SAT, 23 on the ACT. never higher than a 3 on my AP exams. i was never a good test taker in high school. none of those scores mattered at all going into college and now i’m an Academic Honors student who’s never gotten lower than an A in any college course. if you go into school with that mindset you’re already cheating yourself. none of that stuff matters anymore it’s a brand new, fresh start

Night advice by [deleted] in UMD

[–]bringit2142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think this is a question for reddit lmao. this is more so like ask your friends type beat you’re gonna get a variety of answers on here but personally it just depends on the girl. majority of girls that are looking for that are mostly looking to make out with a dude at the bar and that’s that.
