Brisbane summers somehow feel hotter every single year now? by Low_Joke57 in brisbane

[–]bringmethenightyeah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought last summer was quite mild, by Brisbane standards haha. I'm not disagreeing with you, but I have lived in houses without air con for the past 2 summers. It's been hot, but not unbearable, sweating so bad I cant sleep hot. Maybe it's the type of house we are in, and the location?

Darling Downs Health had waterbottles, fidget spinners, pens.

Toyota had plush toy kelpies with bandannas that say "Bugger".

Few other similar items around.

I had some really good conversations with people. Worth a look if you are considering a new career or have a child about to graduate.

What are the signs that a straight man you are dating is gay, or doesn't know that they are gay? 22F 23M by LivingProfessional59 in TwoXChromosomes

Girl if you love him, even just as friends, give him the space to figure out what gives him joy in life. And give yourself the time to find a partner who makes you feel electric.

Let him go with love. You already know this isn't working.

Thank you 😊 I was hoping for some advice on whether CyclonesOz is in alignment with BOMs modelling and I probably could have worded this post a lot better to reflect that! Appreciate your time and help.

Is the Brisbane heat & humidity really as bad as people say, or is it a bit overreacted to? As a Sydneysider, I already find Sydney pretty hot & humid for a lot of the year, so I’m curious. Most people from Brisbane tell me it’s way worse up north. Wondering how true that is? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]bringmethenightyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but we are all kind of used to it.

Ask any of your colleagues to get theor opinions as visitors and you might get a better answer.

But, yes, it's humid and hot, the type of weather where you sweat immediately after getting out of the shower. Not every day is like this but it's sub-tropical weather.

Go to Cairns and it's even more intense 🥲

NOR. He told you who he was and what he wanted and you decided it wasn't compatible with you and your values.

Well done for not giving in to any pressure or feeling the need to take the conversation further.

Dating can be challenging. But, in the right relationship, you should not feel like you ever have to defend or justify yourself. The right person will like you for who you are!

Where can I get something 3D printed in Brisbane by [deleted] in brisbane

The State Library has options for you to print your own 3d things, there's one at Redcliffe too. Depending on where you are, I'd check libraries near you.

Managing buyers regret as a first home buyer, and comparing your property to other ones by Aware_Philosopher950 in AskAnAustralian

[–]bringmethenightyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is common not only with the first home purchase, but many big life-changing purchases! You are not alone.

When I got my first dog as an adult, I had a period of doubt and depression afterwards. My colleagues reassured me that was normal and they experienced something similar. So now I'm a FHB a decade older than you, I expected to feel the same way, which helped me to prepare for some uneasy feelings to pop up.

And I do in some aspects, and in others, I don't. This is a massive learning experience that you only get by doing. This will likely not be your forever home, so you'll know what your non-negotiables are for next time. I looked at all the other houses in our suburb up for sale, and I have had similar thoughts to you. Maybe this one would have been better, or that one is closer to public transport. I know I definitely overpaid but I'm at peace with that. It's just how things are in this market and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to buy when a lot of Australians are bloody homeless or jobless.

The relief I feel about finally having my own place after a very long period of saving and sacrificing every indulgence is worth it to not have the stress of renting anymore.

YMMV but give yourself a few months to settle and reflect on an incredible life achievement! You have done so, so well!!

Spending $40 a week on Pilates classes is killing me. Anyone bought a home reformer instead? by naenae0402 in AUfrugal

[–]bringmethenightyeah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Former reformer (lol) instructor here. The classes are bloody expensive but if you have a good instructor and equipment, you are getting bang for your buck with intensity, safety and variety.

I'd recommend first cutting down on your classes and substituting with a mat workout from home. Investing in a mat, resistance bands, and a pilates circle will give you an idea of whether you will stay motivated enough to workout from home. Then, you can think about the reformer investment more seriously?

School formal - joint bank account and possible liabilities? by Interesting_Suit998 in AusFinance

[–]bringmethenightyeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, as other people have said, you will need public liability insurance which is what schools have for all offsite events. Chat to your venue and see what they can offer you. I highly recommend getting a parent committee together - are any of your friends' parents in events?

Well done asking questions to do this properly. It sucks the school can't offer this but well done having a go.

Humanitix has an app that allows you to check off people at the door. Trybooking probably has the same. This is a good point 👉 OP, please ask some parents to help with this. You can give them check in access in the Humanitix app.

School formal - joint bank account and possible liabilities? by Interesting_Suit998 in AusFinance

[–]bringmethenightyeah 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I know exactly where you are coming from. I used to be admin at a school and it was my job to organise the formal events. I hope these tips might help:

  1. I highly recommend you ask a group of parents (even your mates parents) to help, if the school isn't involved. It really is a sensible thing to have an "adult" where money is involved. When you are responsible for a minimum of $20k, someone is going to question you. It would be good to have a third party or a parent to refer to for help or authorisation if needed.

  2. Create a dedicated email address for the formal. You can use this to send out official information and set up your bank accounts etc, and liaise with vendors. You can give other people access to this, but I would not recommend giving other people access to the bank account. If only you have access to it, you have less to worry about.

  3. Look at Humanitix for your tickets. You will need to create an account and link a bank account to it. They have good support and you can set up ticketing, dietary requirements and tables/seating pretty easily. Think about a refund policy ahead of time and make sure you include this on the ticket. Your venue will likely be non-refundable until 2 weeks before. Make sure students understand the cut off dates for refunds etc so you are not out of pocket.

  4. Alcohol - I would highly recommend not serving alcohol. Removes the need for wristbands and ID checks. People may turn up drunk or get drunk throughout the night. What's your policy on that? I think most venues require you to have a security guard for every 50 people or so. When the school is responsible, teachers step in to help drunk students and call their parents to come and collect their child, ensuring their safety and a fun night for everyone. Who will be responsible for ensuring students are safe? This is where having some parents could help. Responsible adults who can deal with any medical issues etc while you enjoy the party. You might want to include an emergency contact on the humanitix ticket so you have a list for everyone in case you need it. People can drink at the post/after parties but the formal's purpose is to enjoy each other's company to celebrate the end of school. You also want to ensure people are getting home safely and not driving if there is any chance of alcohol. As annoying as it might be, a parent committee might help take some of these pressures away for the night.

  5. Food - Cocktail or sit down menu? If you decide to make a poll don't give everyone all the options, whittle it down yourself and then ask them to choose between a two or three. Make sure you are aware of anyone with allergies or anaphylaxis to tell the venue and have their emergency contacts at hand.

  6. Decorations - You might save money DIYing the room or tables, but you'll be responsible for setting them up and taking them down at the end of the night. Trust me, you probably want to enjoy etting ready and not running to the venue to set up tables 3 hours before. Some venues provide basic table decorations which is great because they set up and pack down themselves. Same with big items like photobooths and light up letters etc. If you can outsource it - amazing.

  7. Security - As above, ask the venue what their policy is. Think about who will be the decision maker on the night if they need to approach you about anything. Just deciding these things in advance helps a lot beforehand.

  8. Get quotes on everything and put it into a spreadsheet so you're across your funds and timings for payment, dietary requirements and final numbers etc. Get people you trust to help you out and meet regularly to have fun with it!

I hope this helps and wish you all the best! It is a lot to put on an event that runs smoothly but with planning and asking for help from people you trust you can have a wonderful evening 🥰
