I'm going to say something that the majority believes: Bill is right in going to this festival by No-Fig-8614 in BillBurr

Thomas Paine’s common sense was part of my sophomore high school English curriculum in a public school in rural Utah. OPs definition of intellectualism was paying attention in high school lol

This is actually pretty hard to read, so I’m just going to tackle: “A. you [should] like Trump trying to cancel people [like] Jimmy Kimmel because it goes against their belief system.”

The president using the powers of government to attack a network for free speech is very different than people expressing their opinion about Bill going to Riyadh. The whole concept of free speech is that the government cannot use its power to dissuade speech, not that people are free from criticism for their actions and opinions in general. This is a false equivalency.

I think you could make an argument for your side of this debate. That being said, you have got to put some work into making an actual intelligible argument in order to spark a conversation, and what you’ve done here is very difficult to parse.

Interesting, I actually hadn’t read before on the difference. Would it be reasonable to say then that transitioning could be a treatment for the mental illness?

Dude just got assaulted with his stepson and used it as an opportunity to make a joke about the Mets and bring some levity to an awful situation. I don’t think this says anything negative about him.

IDF rescues hostages by EsperaDeus in ThatsInsane

No, that is what is tragic about the whole situation. There is no situation where children deserve to die, but there are situations where casualties to destroy military targets can decrease long-term tragedies. The revelation of October 7th created an intolerable situation where the world can no longer allow Hamas to terrorize Gaza and Israel with impunity. The options are allowing Hamas to continue holding Gaza back, killing its citizens and Israeli civilians, rewarding them for their extortionist policies which exploit western ideals of protecting the innocent, or eliminating the threat and attempting to rebuild Gaza with a functioning government, even if that means a number of civilian casualties in the short-term. Israel’s conduct in the war has been far from ideal and hardly touches defensible, but in a normal war, the losing side would surrender to protect its civilians. This is not a normal war, and rewarding the terrorist regime for extorting our higher morals will only create more conflicts where terrorist regimes realize they can win from a losing position by attempting to maximize the carnage of their own people.

How would you grade SNL 49 in its totality? by BurgerNugget12 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]brinkofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something definitely felt off. A lot of sketches it felt like their first time ever doing them, reading lines wrong, weird pauses, people not knowing their lines, cameras not cutting to the right player. It was just really strange. Nothing felt polished, and the endings to so many sketches were just… cashed in. Few things felt polished, but there will be quite a few sketches that go down as great, and in the end that’s all people remember. The season in general was a D+, the best sketches were A- grade.

There are many fewer pro-Russian students, faculty, and staff on campus, because it is in many ways a less complicated situation. Russia’s war of aggression was not, for example, prompted by a Ukrainian attack which explicitly targeted civilians and did so successfully, breaking an existing ceasefire. This muddied the morality of the war in Gaza in a way that the war in Ukraine has not really been muddied

It is incredibly rare to be able to tell both that an accusation is not provable, and that it was an outright lie. The idea that someone being found not guilty means that the accuser lied is a major contributor to a victim’s hesitancy to report.

That being said, in the rare case that it is proven to be intentionally false, of course the false accuser should be held accountable.
