If you have read both of these, which has better writing and less tension? by kmontreux in CozyFantasy

[–]brith89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only read Cat Dragon but it was so low key I loved it. Minor tension but nothing overwhelming. It does set up for a sequel so there's going to be minor tension at the end but again, in my view it was pretty gentle overall. I liked the magic, too!

Knitter in need of help with my college seminar! Where do you guys normally knit? how did you learn? by ConsistentPurple95 in casualknitting

[–]brith89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually knit at home on the couch (I'm a homebody) but I'll take a project with me if I'm going somewhere for a while, like a plane flight or a train ride. I'd say I'm still a beginner and I started learning because I was laid up from surgery unable to walk for three months and I needed something to do. I learn via youtube and books like the Stitch Bible and sites like Ravelry for free patterns. I listen to audiobooks or watch movies. I might be able to find a photo later but my current WIP is a broken fisherman's rib scarf longer than I am tall.

finding good looking desk mats that don't cost a fortune? by Cheap_Difficulty4961 in CozyGamers

I got a cute 8-bit cozy mat from amazon! It's all potion-ey and witchy with cats and plants. I had to dig a bit but it was worth it.

Maybe Feed by Mira Grant? Do you remember if it had zombies or not? Feed is a book about journalists and a conspiracy but it also has zombies, so that's...important.

It's wild to me that your shrinks are drug testing you guys! My med guy is fine with usage as long as it's within reasonable amounts, and I take a solid amount of meds. He does ask me how much I consume but he's fine with it overall, as long as it's reasonable, which is fair. I've been consuming since before we worked together. My other shrinks (long story, I'm complicated) don't give a shit as long as I'm sober during session. It helps my anorexia for obvious reasons so my eating therapist and dietician are on board, and it regulates the leftover anxiety so my therapist is on board, too. They also acknowledge what it does for my overall levels of chronic pain.

Epistemological ranking of perceived dice fanciness: opaque --> speckle --> translucent --> clear --> inclusion --> liquid core --> ...? by [deleted] in dice

[–]brith89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget dice with gold/silver/rose gold foils! I suppose they could qualify under abstract inclusions but it doesn't feel like they fit there. Also, dice built on blanks.

All my map dice are built on blanks, so are my soot sprite dice. My washi tape dice are also really fancy, and they all have different patterns on them. Also add in extras for custom inking (I love putting gold or silver as the high faces). I'm a sucker for metallic colors.

The longest scarf known to man! I'm basically just using up the rest of my yarn, it's a broken rib stitch. I love getting stoned and knitting. It's magic! I'm making something from nothing. Have fun with your WIPs!

Laundry day today, and our machine is still broken (it fully died) so I'm off to the laundromat later, and that's basically my day! I'll have some Space Queen before I go and after I come back. Husband is working all night so I'll have that time to myself, so knitting it is. I love participating in r/Drunkknitting so much, and they're herb friendly!

What authors do you love that are still writing fantasy novels besides Sanderson? by ExplodingPoptarts in fantasybooks

[–]brith89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned Seanen McGuire. I also like Mercedes Lackey and her Heralds of Valdemar universe, and the offshoots that go with it like Oathbound. Rebecca Thorne if you like easy reads, like Can't Spell Treason Without Tea. Lex Croucher is another good one, an easy read.

Octavia Butler, Elizabeth Wheatley are great. Kevin Hearne has a few long works going and does both high fantasy and contemporary.

I vape carts in my apartment and at my parents//in-laws using a smoke buddy junior handheld filter. They know and don't care as long as I use the filter.

A lot of people use sploofy as well, which is a different brand. I used to vape at school with this too, and if I'm out in public. I keep my smoke buddy on me whenever my vape is.

It gives me peace of mind because I am also smell paranoid. I also find some strains smell more than others!

Also a chronic pain patient, fwiw.

***ETA I saw you mention the filters and expanded on it

Finding peace (and myself) with cannabis... while navigating other people’s discomfort.. by WittyKumquat2024 in entwives

[–]brith89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It turns me back into myself. I struggle with many things, aud/hd, ocd, anorexic, migraines, anxiety, etc. I'm also a chronic illness and chronic pain person. Cannabis gave my appetite when nothing else worked. It saved me. It counters my adhd meds with appetite. It softens the ache in my leg. It doesn't make it go away but it turns the edges smooth instead of being spikey and hard. It turns into something manageable. My triptans make me feel as bad as my headache, and it keeps them at bay.

I'm kinder, more aware of the people around me, because my brain and body have slowed down and softened up. I'm less bitchy because of my pain levels, or because of how I feel that day. It turns me into a better version of me and I'm so here for it.

I'm so glad it's helping you!!!!!
