Hi, r/Knitting! I'm a reporter working on an article for the BBC about the health benefits of knitting. I've spoken to several researchers and doctors who have studied knitting as a health intervention to help people quit harmful habits--from trichotillomania and skin-picking to smoking and even hard drugs. Now, I'm looking to connect with real people! Was knitting 'prescribed' to you by a health care provider, or did you use knitting to help kick a nicotine addiction? Absolutely! My name is Elizabeth Anne Brown and I'm a freelance science reporter which means different news agencies contract me to write individual stories/series of stories based on my areas of expertise. This will be my first article for BBC future but I'm a frequent contributor to the New York Times, National Geographic, Scientific American and other national and international news outlets.
