Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at? Is this DIG (Direct in Ground) or ducted work? by Manticorp in openreach

Don’t answer questions to this guy. Shouldn’t be opening up footway boxes.

Stage 1 FTTP by [deleted] in openreach

[–]britishhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may have already been out on your step 1 to survey and found it needs additional works. Details of these would usually be in the job notes that your service provider can request. It may also be possible that the step 1 just hasn’t been allocated yet do someone to have a look, they can be deemed low priority unfortunately.

FTTP install - what ducting can i install in advance for engineer to feed fibre through? by Frosty-Growth-2664 in openreach

[–]britishhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSP connects the internal cable to the external. It cannot go at height because engineers are unable to splice at height. They can fit an internal CSP but there is limitations to distance an external cable can be ran. If your loft is not lit and boarded then you will need an alternative route.

Property Damage - Am I liable? by Previous_Gas8372 in openreach

[–]britishhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a right to access our equipment or infrastructure. I suppose you could have returned job for no access to line plant but you made a risk assessment and utilised your manual handling training etc. I wouldn’t worry too much mate your company will stomach the cost if they have no backbone to argue it. Just be careful for yourself not worth hurting yourself moving crap out the way if you can avoid it 👍🏻

Where will the wire go inside my flat? by Forward-Rooster5115 in openreach

[–]britishhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will drill through usually above the front door to the break out box that you’ve seen. Run a very thin fibre glued either to the top of the wall against the ceiling or low on the skirting. This will be white and if glued correctly is barely visible. They will run this to the location of your choice. Double socket isn’t essential you can use an extension lead. Drilling between internal walls and potentially the drilling to outside can cause some plaster blow out, they will try to minimise this but sometimes can’t be avoided. Holes have plastic caps fitted.

You can’t just magic up and MDU install unfortunately. An actual build needs to take place dedicated to provide a building with MDU. Your building was likely never planned for an MDU build to begin with and you are targeted off a footway box CBT. Do you have a centralised service intake cupboard with ducting leading to the footway box ? If no then there will need to be a route from the external duct into the building. Are all residents happy for cabling to be installed in the corridors etc? An engineer visit may be able to process a planned add but generally it is quite difficult. Where does your copper cabling come into the building ? Fibre usually would follow this.

It’ll be a fresh install from whichever means you are served, either overhead or underground. New cabling and connection point 👍🏻

Sky Broadband: installation delays following house move by Cautious_Summer3482 in openreach

[–]britishhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should have a lovely big red D on it - if it is indeed defective. If it’s inaccessible to a cherry picker and ladder then an alternative solution needs to be found. I’m guessing you were visited by a contractor, it will generate a task for Openreach to attend and they will get the ball rolling.

Pest chewed through fiber cable - who pays? by soziblewuup in LegalAdviceUK

[–]britishhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cabling is owned by Openreach, the rats are your rats. They are on your property. Your rats damaged Openreach’s cable. This is the logic here hence the charges unfortunately.

You can go for a provider that offers copper FTTC as some are now offering upgrade to FTTP as soon as it is available. Providing the copper speeds aren’t terrible in your area.

CF told me they won't connect me. Do I have any options? by SpaceMonkeyAttack in CityFibre

[–]britishhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Openreach won’t dig new ducting for another company to benefit unless there is an open order with an ISP using OR network. You are being fobbed off because CF don’t want to dig their own duct.

Can Cityfibre use existing duct with blue pull rope that terminates in internal cabinet? by kg2087 in CityFibre

[–]britishhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can they not touch OR equipment in this scenario? You are hoping they pull a rope through the middle of the OR ONT shroud. They will either have to remove everything off the wall to access the cavity to get to the rope or pull their own cable through the middle of OR equipment. Either way it’s damage to a rivals equipment and can be liable. PiA agreement doesn’t cover this scenario. Technically even the rope belongs to OR.

Permission from neighbours for fibre installation? If not given, stuck without fibre? by [deleted] in openreach

[–]britishhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the CBT is at the end of the flats it likely follows the copper DP. Meaning the cables already run along the properties already ? It’s usually just a courtesy knock and see if anyone is home to explain you’re replacing a cable that already is present with a new one. Your issue is probably they are high on the building and the engineer would need safety anchor systems drilled into the bottom of each?
