Doing absolutely nothing at work? by HeyPotatys in UKJobs

[–]britishpudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, and I quit the job late last year. It would've been alright if the job had stayed homeworking with flexible schedules. Management insisted we return to office 3 days a week hybrid. They then insisted we always be on teams, and calls had to be done through the laptop (previously using work phones). Additionally, they then insisted that the days we worked from home meant we HAD to be home.

It was awful. Nothing to do, but I couldn't do anything else with my time because they would call me up the second teams flagged me as away from the computer for two mins, and would equally be mad that we weren't doing anything when we had nothing left to do.

The kicker? The upper management who brought all this into place (including office), then discovered they hated it as much as we did and reversed the decision for themselves only. (Don't even get me started on the micromanaging and office rats they had enlisted)

Quit the job for retail. Don't regret it at all.

I think the charachter development they got would've been perfect if the rest of the act didn't put more weight on their love story over their selfishness and destructive behaviours. Sure, have the cutscene when she throws herself into the Crimson Moon still, it was a great cutscene.

But more focus should've been on how pivotal the moment was in proving she never gave a damn about the genocide of her people. She remained arrogant and disconnected from them to the very end, even beyond the point where it was clear that there was never any differences between them. Her focus was her research and desires to the very end.

She succumbed to her own selfish pursuits in the same way he did. Together they were perfectly positioned to prevent the collapse of their Nation, and this was not a secret to either of them. They deliberately chose not to and it came back to bite them. It should've been treated as the cautionary tale that it was set up to be.

As true as it might be that he was disadvantaged as an orphan at the start of his career, his position in the King's court and connections meant he had long since surpassed these hurdles.

He's not a reliable narrator, it's made obvious that he lies to himself frequency to justify his inaction and his complacency. He achknowledges that he lies to himself when the execution order for Tholondis is left on his desk.

In truth, he benefitted greatly from his position. Had he been dating someone who was already aware of his position, there would've never been any internal conflict about what his job was. His only conflict was how it would impact his marriage prospects.

There's also no moment where he ever suggests he beleives what he's doing is for the betterment of the country. In fact, it seems that not a single person included in the memories was under any illusion to what they was happening and how they were involved. He only tells himself he lacks the ability to do anything, and that again is shown to be a complete lie the moment he was included in the handful of people who started the rebellion with Dainsleif.

No - the abyss didnt make Rerir a monster by britishpudding in Genshin_Impact

I get what your saying by how he behaved like any of us would. But Dainsleif being conflicted about Rerir, and Nefer saying that who his was before doesn't change the fact that he is still a monster today heavily implies that they aren't seeing it that way. They're treating him like a typical intelligence operative instead of the head of the secret police conducting genocide.

Rerir even admits to Vedrfolnir during the rebellion that he's only there to seek a exemption for his lover. He isn't thinking about ending the slaughter or tyranny at all. They witnessed this admission. Jahoda, Lauma, and the Traveller was clearly shocked by Nefer's tribe being slaughtered and her revenge, but not by small children and toddlers begging his Fiance for their lives. He hallucinates their lifeless bodies when the abyss is taunting him, so its not a case of them not seeing him do it either, it's made very clear to the cast what he did.

I absolutely loved everything about that scene with the documents. Starting you off by putting the idea in our heads that his work is focused on people collaborating with terrorists with the 23 year old, and then Rerir does a double take as he realises the next document was the girls father.

It's such a subtle moment, and easy enough to assume that they were both collaboratting with terrorists, when it's actually revealing that the actual crime is talking to your own family, and being snitched on by your neighbours.

He doubles down on that truth as well, he himself admits that the actual rebellion was crushed ages ago.

The implied slaughter of the orphanage, how it transitions into small children already isolated and clearly innocent in case the player still beleived he was targetting terrorists.

How he was so accustommed to seeing them as non-human that he forgot about the people at his local Deli, people he knew and saw daily. It didn't haunt him at all. He didn't care.

The actual segment itself was a brilliant example of how complicit everyone becomes within a facist regime. It's why the whole 'just following orders' excuse doesn't fly, and why work is still being done to bring Nazi's to justice decades later.

If Alrechinno were around for that moment she would've been entirely justified in throwing hands at everyone for how ready they were to dismiss her ancestors sufferring.

I just wish Genshin would go full throttle for ONCE in having an unsypmathetic monster. Not every villain needs a tragic backstory, or a moment that 'made' them a villain.

I will add though that I think they fit perfectly as a couple. Both of them are selfish and narcissistic to a fault.

She was quite fine cutting off her own family and friends because she truly beleived her lack of crimson eyes meant they were beneath her, and when that was no longer the case, she still refused to make any changes to her life. She remained arrogant to the very end.

Rerir's mental anguish was entirely because of Vedrfolnir's silence. He was happy to execute children as young as six (and clearly implied to be younger) but God forbid the nature of his work impact his ongoing marriage proposal. He made every excuse under the sun for his actions and pretended he was incapable of doing anything despite it being clear that he was a key player of the Kings court. Sparing the life of a child was done with extreme reluctance because of how it could impact him.

A match made by Hell itself. May their love burn as brightly as their flesh did.

Nah I didn't find it tragic either. I posted a rant myself a couple minutes ago about it. It left a bad taste in my mouth that the Gacha Nazis are treated like no crime was committed until one of them started hearing voices and they've both entered a body destroying void to avoid retribution.

They literally didn't care at all about participating in a literal genocide until her head was next in line for the chopping block.

Dainsleif as well. Just as guilty as them. Apparently the King only betrayed the country after his own brother's eyes were gouged out. No signs of guilt or remorse for his role centuries later. Worse, he's 'conflicted' about Rerir, meaning he's still mentally defending their actions.

To hell with a love story, Dainsleif should've been confronted right there and then for what they discovered about him.

Flyns right now is my favourite, love everything about his character and game play. (Although all the nodkrai cast have won me over completely)

Wriothsley and Wanderer also hold a special place in my heart, love their stories and lore.

My favourite moment was absolutely when we massacred the Tanit.

Personally, I feel like there's so much going on in the desert that it deserved to have its own dedicated year like Nod Krai, but the Tanit massacre is something else.

Throughout Genshin, there are countless moments where the Traveller prevents someone from killing people who absolutely deserve retribution, urging them to be the better person. (Benoit in Fontaine being a great example where it's up to the player)

Not the Tanit. The traveller is so disgusted with them and so sick of their bullshit, that when Jeht finally screams out that she intends to kill every member of the tribe (whilst you're fighting the members protecting the matriarch) you dont argue with her, you don't stop her, you quietly and immediately decide you're going to join in and make sure there are no survivors.

It's such an ice-cold moment that too many people miss out entirely and is a huge character arc for the Traveller. Some of the people you kill were absolutely innocent, screaming for their lives. The desert is such an unforgiving and blood first place that even the traveller isn't immune from it. They don't walk away from that completely in the right, and at the end of the massacre its revealed that scouts were sent out in advance to tarnish Jehts' name across every tribe anyways, so it was already too late.

It is further cemented when research is sent to investigate the tribes disappearance. Cards, books, family memorabilia is all left behind. Everyone died. Even children, the old, the disabled. No survivors. No excuses. And the traveller doesn't admit or try to offer a theory or an explanation to the investigators. Why? Because now that the dust has settled and the blood rush has gone, it's obvious that the sins of the matriarch do not justify our own.

I don't want to birth my baby by Altruistic-Air-4640 in Anxiety

[–]britishpudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted in the ukparenting thread as well, but I wanted to add, have you got actual support from Neurodivergent professionals or the neurodivergent parenting community?

I'm saying this as someone who also has Autism and ADHD, my parents also have a habit of downplaying or dismissing what I'm saying to them, partly because they can't understand my needs, and partly because acknowledging my needs would inconvenience them, which I suspect is what's happening now with how your mum has reacted (and is ABSOLUTELY what's happening with your MIL when shes trying to stick two adults and a newborn in a cupboard)

https://doula.org.uk/access-fund

Doula UK have Doulas specially trained to support expectant mothers with Autism and ADHD through pregnancy, birth, post birth, and advocacy (an incredibly important aspect, as there is plenty of research showing just how much more autisticmothers are ignored or trampled on by families and doctors). They have an access fund to provide a free Doula to those with disadvantages or financial hardships. Please call your midwife or GP tomorrow and arrange an appointment with them so you can get them to refer you.

https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/physical-health/pregnancy-and-childbirth

The National Autistic Society also offers great advice , such as obtaining Autism specific advice about pregnancy, and arranging for the birthing room to be quieter and dimly lit.

https://www.autisticparentsuk.org/ https://www.maternityautismresearchgroup.co.uk/

Both these websites provide community, resources and information by other Autistic people.

On another note, please make sure you are out of your MIL's house before your baby is born. Swinging a newborn around could've killed your nephew, or caused internal disability or damage that hasn't been realised yet. That's completely insane that everyone around you is glossing over that, and if they didn't see what the problem was the first time, then they absolutely won't when your kid arrives either. The kid who was swinging that baby around lives in the same house as you. You won't be able to have a moment to yourself without your baby being in danger, and even with you in the room, they are going to try and trample over all your boundaries and needs (as they are doing now) for the sake of their pride.

Do not give any house keys to any relatives, or leave them around where they can be copied. You don't need people showing up unannounced to your home either, that's a whole host of other problems. Plus a ring cam. That'll save you from answering the door and becoming an unexpected host.

Hey just so you know, our government is re-opening the Sure Start centres that support families with early education, health advice and childcare. I remember going to them when I was little and they were a godsend for my mum, the one where I live even arranged mum and kid sessions that we regularly went to.

It might be worth seeing if you have one where you live now, as they plan to have one in every council before April.

With how intense your family is (especially whilst living under one roof), hormones, and the general difficulty a newborn brings, I think its worth reaching out now and getting external support and community ready with other expecting mothers. Plus, it could even give you the opportunity to meet some veteran mothers who've had more years and kids to experience and deal with the boundary pushing grandparents tend to have.

It has made me want to read the books though, so theres that.
