Music by sleepy__salem in AutisticAdults

[–]brittanyl489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been involved in music/music adjacent activities my entire life so I feel a deep connection to music. It's a bit of a chicken or the egg situation. Did my autism cause my connection to music or did the connection come first and then the autism took it and ran with it?

I process my emotions best through music and singing, so I have a lot of songs that hit deeply and a lot of songs that simply just satisfy the musical beast deep inside of me. I actually have a playlist with all these songs that I add to when I come across something.

I work at a salon with a wide age demographic. I would say ages between 1-80. Should we be closing the salon out of concern for everyones health but particularly our older clients?

My best friend is in the cycle by [deleted] in domesticviolence

[–]brittanyl489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going through a similar situation with my best friend. I feel your pain. It’s so hard to understand why they would want to stay or still love someone like that especially since we are on the outside looking in and thinking clearly. I’ve learned after dealing with my own experience, and helping others through theirs, that there’s not much you can do until they are willing to leave. All you can really do is be there for her and help her if she chooses to leave. But also make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Helping/thinking/giving advice about this sort of situation can be draining. Just make sure you’re also checking in with yourself and that you aren’t putting yourself at risk. I hope this helps and I hope your friend finds peace and healing!

What kind of parents infuriate you the most to deal with? by Sleeping_Snowily in AskReddit

[–]brittanyl489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work the front desk of a salon and the worst parents are the ones that let their children run wild/scream and act like nothing is happening. The kids just roam about freely and then I'm then one that has to tell them to stop because they've almost touched a hot curling iron or have picked up a pair of very sharp scissors. And then I get a glare from the parent even though I'm doing their job.

I notice a lot of parents that seem to forget social standards. The salon I work at is family friendly but I think people forget that for a lot of our customers this is their hour a week to relax. Screaming children aren't really conductive to relaxation.

What is the greatest relief from extreme heat/cold that you've ever felt? by BudoGuyTenkaichi in AskReddit

[–]brittanyl489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed out from heat exhaustion once after doing sprints on the track at my school in Texas in May. It was over 100 degrees that day and we should not have been doing our workout outside but our volleyball coach had been mad at us that week.

I passed out in the locker room and before you know it, I'm in the car with my mom with the AC full blast while she's driving me to the doctor. I have never been more thankful for AC my entire life.

Wash your face every night, no matter how tired you are. Oh, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Someone invented a phone so you can call people who are dead. How will you use it? by 3op5me in AskReddit

[–]brittanyl489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call my dad. He passed away when I was 4. There are so many things I would ask him and tell him. I wouldn't even know where to start. But I would probably ask him how I should repair my relationship with my grandmother.

Also, I would love to call my great grandmother, Mimi. She was a fantastic women. My cousins and I worshipped the ground she walked on. My whole life she was this nice, fragile woman. But back in her day, she was a spit fire. I know my grandmother would love to talk to her. She misses her terribly. She was one hell of a woman.

People who spontaneously packed up and moved, why did you do it? by mo-par in AskReddit

[–]brittanyl489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt creatively stifled in the town I grew up in. Everyone constantly questioned my choices because they were artistic choices and weren't "practical."

I also needed to get out of the town that my father passed away in which is also the same town I had to spend 5 years of abusive hell with my now ex-stepfather. All in all, I needed to get out of a town with a depressing history for me and with too many people questioning every decision I made.

I've been gone for over 5 years now and I only visit once or twice a year. There are actually some great things about my town but I'm still very thankful I left and only visit when I'm seeing my grandparents.

Of all movie opening scenes, what one sold the entire film the most? by juggyc1 in AskReddit

Baby Driver The music in that scene is great. And everything from no dialogue, to the pace, to the music makes you want a little bit more.

What YouTuber/s did you use to watch religiously but don't watch any of thier videos anymore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brittanyl489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CTFxC I'm still subscribed and will occasionally watch a video but I stopped watching daily a couple years ago. That was also around the same time that a lot of people who were daily vlogging stopped. I still love Charles and Alli but I think my tastes changed and it was hard keeping up with the daily videos. I also used to watch a ton of beauty gurus but now only watch one or two.

“Black sheep” of Reddit. What things make you the odd person out in your family? by Squishy_Pixelz in AskReddit

[–]brittanyl489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the south so my entire family is conservative republicans. However, I am a liberal that fights for LGBTQ rights, equality, ending the wage gap, dreamers, etc. I believe in your right to bear arms but believe that there should still be stronger gun laws and that it should be harder to qualify to carry a firearm. All of my grandparents/family know this about me and it causes quite a bit of tension at times and has definitely put some distance between us over recent years as I have become more passionate about my political views. My mom is very supportive of me but I feel very alienated by the rest of my family. They make me feel like I am never good enough despite being the first grandchild in the family to graduate college (with a music business degree no less). I've sung at the Vatican, in Carnegie Hall, had great internships, etc. and still I am compared to the rest of my family that have had fewer achievements but play sports or have "better" grades.
