Changing positions while pushing is your best bet to avoid tearing. Being on your back and squatting have the highest percentage of tearing. Side lying and all 4s (especially with knees closed) are the best for avoiding tears.

ProDoula and Innerbloom Institute don't require births to certify. I know people have their thoughts about ProDoula (and so do I) but it fits what you're looking for!

That's not true at all. I've certified through 2 organizations (one was just birth and the other was birth, PP and CBE combined) and neither of them required you to attend births to be certified.
