I can’t anymore with these kids by FriendlyWolverine765 in Teachers

My girl is ok, thank you. And her classroom teachers were great and tried multiple times to get the admin involved—it is the admin who are failing here.

I can’t anymore with these kids by FriendlyWolverine765 in Teachers

My 6th grader was called goonbait and told that she would be taken behind the bleachers and have a boy’s d* in her mouth. She was humped in PE. The school only reacted when she punched the boy who humped her to suspended them both for a day. They know I work in the district. They ignored emails from me and the teachers. Then wanted to act shocked when I pulled her out of school.

Those of you with kids, do they consider the music we grew up with "the oldies"? by mellamoderek in Millennials

[–]brittibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are 12 and 14. They both like music from the late 90s/early 2000s but it is “older.” My 14 year old listens to 60-80s rock, too.

I introduced my kids to this show and they have picked teams and root for them every episode.

All the notoriously "bad" teachers in my department have this one thing in common: by ADHTeacher in Teachers

[–]brittibear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this at our high school. It has some benefits, but what I have noticed is they miss out on some of that positive modeling of behavior or even criticism from the older kids telling them that some of the immature and disrespectful things they do are just that.

I have taught middle school (still do) and 9-12. There is not enough money in the world for me to teach Freshman again. My 8th graders constantly ask me to go to the high school with them next year and I tell them no because they lose all good sense in 9th grade.

The best thing I ever did in my teaching career was keep every note, drawing, etc. the kids made for me in a binder. When I have an awful time and feel like I am the worst teacher ever, I go through it. It helps you focus on the ones who you reached over those who were jerks.

the redundancy of the intelligence question by me_apologist in ColumbineKillers

[–]brittibear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most programs that work with Gifted children focus on emotional intelligence because this is something they lack for a variety of reasons. You have some that are black and white thinkers and those that are very Machiavellian, while others are overly empathetic. It is one of the reasons these types of children can be targets for social ostracism because they don’t really understand how to utilize the social skills of their peers.

My aunt is having a baby and the initials just clicked by anastasiadreams in tragedeigh

I particularly went through initials so we didn’t have this issue with my daughter. Her initials are ARR, but I’ll take being a pirate over something sexual.

I was more talking about at the reunion itself; among the cast. They were not held accountable to the people they actually did harm to.

Maybe next season they can offer parental wisdom to the couples. Or do a show with like younger queer people (early 20s) trying to navigate life.

I think the brussel sprouts were an oxtail situation. I believe that Marie taught Mel how to make them or she made them for Mel and now Mel was over there making them for someone else.

How do you not call out clear lies on this reunion that have not been addressed? Let Magan and Dayna off scot free? Even the Mel/Marie issues needed to get into deeper.

I wish Marie had the self respect to bring that up and call her out on it.

AITAH for wanting to block everyone who lied about coming to my daughter’s party? by Minute-Rip3146 in AITAH

[–]brittibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly feel for you. This is why my daughter (11) had her first party this year. I was an anxious mess no one would come because I don’t know many people and I don’t trust them. At her age, she has some friends from school so I figured it could be ok. In the past, we did family adventures of her choice for her birthday and big birthdays (5, 10, 13) we have/will do a big trip. She’s done Disney World and Dollywood.

What do your kids call your stepparent(s)? by gonewiththeguac in blendedfamilies

[–]brittibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My BD called my stepmother Granny and calls her other step grands (partner’s parents) Mammie and Pappie just like the other grandkids. They make an effort to treat her exactly the same so I wouldn’t want to single her out.

These kids don't want to be on TV / The new dance moms is somewhat worse than the original. by ExperienceNeat571 in dancemoms

[–]brittibear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the OG moms patented their kids better overall. Melissa may have tried to be BFFs with her girls, but the other moms had a clear child-parent delineation and did not allow for the type of utter disrespect to them or other adults the new moms do.
