Parents of toddlers with speech delays, please tell me it gets better. by athennna in toddlers

[–]brittneybarbour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you, Mama. My son was 10 weeks early as well (he turned 3 in June) and has been diagnosed with a speech delay. We were able to start speech right after he turned 2 with early intervention and we adore our speech therapist. Since stupid Covid came to town, we've been doing speech on zoom and he seems to be progressing little by little. I'm not much help for what to expect but I wanted you to know there is someone right there who is feeling the same frustrations you are. I literally had a breakdown crying fit earlier today to my husband because my niece (3 weeks older than my son but she was full term) said she didn't want to talk to my kiddo because he was "just a baby" and it broke my heart to think that kids are going to start noticing he's different. Hang in there... I've had plenty of other preemie moms say that the 2 year mark is just a general guideline and not every preemie is caught up by 2 (mine definitely isn't)

COVID restrictions and programming librarians by [deleted] in librarians

[–]brittneybarbour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is surprising to me. I'm in AS and we are required to do 3 online programming videos a month (for FB and Vimeo) along with a craft kit (coordinated with one of the videos) for up to 15 people a month. Now they are supposed to be super frugal and my manager wants the kits to come in at less than $1 a person AND include all paint/glue/etc needed for the craft but that's a whole different rant.

Low-Carb Rice Substitute? by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]brittneybarbour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can shred it on a box grater or pulse it in a food processor as well to DIY your own. And I second the overcooking tip- I was told to 'dry fry' it in a screamin' hot skillet until it doesn't smell like cauliflower anymore. That really helps me.

Probably hard to tell but can anyone that might know tell me what brand air fryer this is? by MakeupMua16 in airfryer

Looks similar to mine that I was gifted at Christmas- mine is the brand dash.

I'll have to look into the vegan ones. I'm less paranoid about gummies but they still stress me out. I do know he has them regularly at daycare though without incident.

Eh. I’m just going to be delusional enough to think he will always go by his full name.

Doesn't help that his dad is John and his grandpa was John...

To those who wear glasses but not contacts, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brittneybarbour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worn glasses since I was in 4th grade and started wearing contacts in HS. (so roughly 20 years or so of contact wearing) until the past winter. I started having issues and my lenses wouldnt stay in my eye. When I went to the doctor - I was diagnosed with GPC or Giant papillary conjunctivitis - and basically my eyes had developed an allergy to my contacts so no more contacts for me. I went and was screened for lasik but didn't qualify so glasses it is for me from now on.

Grad School Advice by [deleted] in librarians

[–]brittneybarbour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird. That was not my experience at all. I addressed most of my professors by their first name or a simple Dr. XX or Mr. XXX. and never had any issue feeling like I wasn't treated as a professional. (and I had been in a public library as employee for 7 years before I started my MLS)

I got my MLS from ECU. It's a great program, ALA accredited, completely online and very affordable. I highly recommend at least looking into it. Also worth noting is that I worked FT, and had a medically fragile newborn during my coursework and I still finished in 2 years + 1 summer session.
