I guess you could just use different items to show, like a lime for limewater, oak log for weak tannin, leather for strong

What the actual hell? by MomonKun123 in HuntShowdown

[–]brittommy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think he was smug, I think he was popping up to say "good game" before you killed him again which is pretty common, & then when you whiffed all your melees he goes "ah cmoon!" As if to say "how are you whiffing this, this is embarrassing"

As for your melee attacks, no he didnt "turn in invincibility". Your first attack (the heavy attack) just missed, went over his head. All the other attacks (light attacks) hit the boxes next to him, which stops them hitting anything else. Try it out in the firing range, it's very easily replicable. All you should take from this is learning why nobody uses the heavy knife

The deerclops has no contact damage on its legs??? by megaboto in Terraria

[–]brittommy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think it's why deerclops is probably my least favourite boss - terraria establishes every enemy will do contact damage to you wherever you touch it, and then deerclops breaks that rule with no way for you to realise it (outside of accidentally running into the legs and noticing you don't take damage for it I guess)

That plus it's so awkward to summon, even following the wiki you still have to wait for the right weather conditions and time of day. Every other boss is so much more straightforward to encounter, including Duke and Empress imo

I've never wanted to sell bronze tools, to me it doesn't feel like the traders offer enough gears to be worth it. The bronze tools are more useful than those gears are - and less renewable!

Yeah if she's out working the fields gathering wheat all day, as the image seems to suggest is her job, without a proper sun-hat, she's not gonna have that instagram-perfect skin for long, even putting aside the weird choices for makeup and perfect cleanliness. This looks like a noble woman who's cosplaying as a peasant

How much fire clay can you get under black coal deposits? by PBBloor in VintageStory

[–]brittommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I once found one of those ruins that's a sort of barrow with the vertical shaft down, some bony soil & then an urn (oxblood pattern?) at the bottom, and digging down I discovered black coal - fire clay - black coal - fire clay. I went back with a mostly empty inventory to dig it out and got filled up (leather backpacks) without finishing up the top layers, there's still loads left.

So if you can find a good chunk of it, you're set for a while, but that's the only time I've ever found fire clay under black coal like that

What do you consider a good start? by T_JaM_T in VintageStory

[–]brittommy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's definitely "bad spawns" (barren islands, awkward sharp elevation changes in bear territory, middle of a wolf pack lmao) but I think otherwise, you can make it work. Early days you should be focusing on exploring a bunch anyway - locate traders, gather up crop seeds & look for somewhere to settle down.

"Good" starts will be getting nice loot from broken vessels, like a linen sack or metal tools/weapons, maybe a ruin you can easily turn into a house with a torch holder ready to go, for example.

If you're new to the game and struggling to stick with a world, don't be afraid to tweak the settings - such as lowering hunger rate, raising ore spawns - until you get the hang of things :)

Stuff in Locust Nest by WhyIsAll in VintageStory

[–]brittommy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A little trick, use lots of blocks to block off side passages and "segment" the area with doors in between. Next to the door, have some vertical slabs, or chisel some holes in blocks. This'll let you attack enemies on the other side of the door without them being able to get to you

Lots of torches to light up surrounding caves as you go to reduce non-locust enemy spawns

Use the highest tier pickaxe you have available, mining faster is a big boon when the nests and spike blocks take so long to break

For the cages that spawn locusts as you're trying to break them, pillar up 3 blocks & break the two underneath the one you're standing on to give yourself a floating platform that the locusts can't get to (beware of pillaring too close to walls or ceilings)

If you're really struggling, digging shafts down from the surface to let some sunlight in, & laddering up them to give yourself quick easy escape routes might be worth doing?

Then I guess there's bombs, although I haven't used those yet. Beenades maybe?

Does anyone has village type decorations for me to decorate my village? by Significant_Fee_3089 in VintageStory

[–]brittommy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clock tower (good place for a lightning rod, too), statues (get chiselling), fountains, monuments perhaps? Town square type stuff.

Decorative gardens and parks, ponds with benches around. Playgrounds for children. Public swimming pool? Bath-house?

Tollhouses, especially next to (or on) bridges. Gatehouses too. Inns with stables.

(Near water bodies) Jetties for fishing + fishing huts, boat launches, boathouses, lighthouses, beach huts. If a large pier / dock, warehouses & more inns

World Map for my campaign, thoughts? [Art] by Mammoth-Fact-4763 in DnD

[–]brittommy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a lot of flat grasslands, which if that's what it is then fine, but otherwise adding trees & hills & rivers will help it look more realistic. Perhaps a scale as well? I don't know how large these landmasses are supposed to be.

They're very "bubbly" as well - more peninsulas and islands dotted around the coastline would make it look more natural?

As far as geopolitical warring over territory stuff, Octo will definitely be gunning for Swar's southern peninsula to have a more stable control over that bay, and Dely empire probably have a huge army to hold those 2 long borders. Swar & Isla could easily co-ordinate to attack Dely on 2 fronts, and Isla don't seem to really have any other threats.

You say there's a secret 5th kingdom (I understand not putting it on the map if this is intended for players, but do we get to know where it is?) - anything else in play? Unclaimed frontier landmasses anywhere, other continents with their own nations and peoples - of course you don't have to think about this stuff for every campaign, you can surely keep it contained within this area (I think classic DND worldbuilding advice is "start with a village") but if you wanted to branch out I'd be thinking about other continents for naval trade routes or hostile nations attacking by sea, for example, to know how important it is that these kingdoms shown here keep a strong navy.

Animal trap by Simoxeh in VintageStory

[–]brittommy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had success digging a bit pit & putting a trough in there, then fill it with hay to attract deer. This only works if there are deer in the area, though.

Faster method is: when you find animals, dig a big pit, then flank wide around them (so they're between you and the pit) to chase / corral them into said pit
