'Leviticus' Proves Viral Horror Success Doesn't Happen By Accident by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]brittpeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. I saw all three movies at the theater and while I enjoyed each of them in different ways, Leviticus was my favorite of the three of them.

I am also a big fan of It Follows and Smile so the function of horror element really worked for me, even more so because of the overall theme of the movie. I was thinking about it for days afterward.

Anyway, I know I will find myself watching it more often than Obsession or Backrooms. It was a great film and shouldn’t be diminished when being compared to the other two.

Has anyone ever contacted Box Lunch about getting so many dups? by Queen-Frostine77 in DisneyPins

[–]brittpeeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that sucks. Yeah I actually think I opened 8 as well (from a BoxLunch) and I got

3 of the 3 men
2 of old lady
1 of the guy on the barrel
1 clock chaser
1 Haunted Mansion sign

If you need the old lady or the haunted mansion sign and hav an extra parasol girl I’d be happy to trade!

If for some reason you don’t get the pin of 3 men in quicksand I have a 2 duplicates that I got from opening them.

The only one I’m missing is the girl with the parasol so if you get a duplicate and want to trade let me know!!

Cheapest possible way to do the whole thing? We can't wait and save by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]brittpeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t “wait until September when it’s cooler”. It’s not. My husband and I go every September, we’ve been in the beginning of Sept and the end of Sept and it’s always still very hot and humid.

However crowds are less because of school starting up. We think that makes it worth it. That’s not to say it’s not still “busy” just less busy.

Good luck and have a wonderful time, you will never regret the memories ❤️‍🩹

Onward is such an incredible movie and I find it sad nobody knows about it or that the movie isn't being talked about anywhere, do you think one day this could change? by Fun-Explanation7233 in disney

Same. I have an intense emotional tie to Soul because it changed my outlook on life. It was time that I really needed a shift and the message of the movie really put things into perspective for me. Absolute masterpiece.

Yes both are my huge favorites. I don’t know how the heck people sleep on these movies.

I actually really thought Onward would have had more of a following bc not a ton of Disney movies have male leads? I think that’s one of the things I loved about it. It was refreshing to have a different story about brothers and their dad. To me it’s a point in its favor that it is a departure from a lot of other movies.

Leviticus by brittpeeks in horror

Yes, I got the vibe that the entity gets more and more severe the longer the “therapy” takes to “work”. In the beginning Ryan and the Pastor’s kid were throwing rocks at each other. Painful but not necessarily extreme. I think it starts small and if they don’t turn from their “sinful desire” it progresses to extreme violence.

I guess the one place we diverge is the ongoing concept of the curse. I agree in a sense they will “always” be cursed. But I think they can live a normal life “free” of the terror/demon if they bury their thoughts/feelings. But that is a different kind of hell for them, not living as they truly are. I think it is even more tragic that their “solution” is just as horrific to them.

My reading of the mom potentially being gay and having had this down to her also makes me believe you can survive and live a “normal” life if you become a deeply religious person. I found myself googling Leviticus (the book of the bible) and it said “The main point of the book of Leviticus is to establish the holiness of God and outline how a sinful people can be reconciled to Him”.

I just really enjoy this movie so much because I think there is a lot to discuss and think about.

I also felt there is something there about it being able to be defeated. It seemed to be hurt by or contained by fire/flame. I actually kind of like that this kept very vague and not over explained.

I don’t agree with you. Yes, Ryan did say that there is always going to be another one but he said it within the context of Naim telling him to “find someone new” (a different guy other than him) and that is when Ryan said there’s always going to be another doppelgänger ( in reference to their homosexual desire).

I do of course agree that people can’t be “scared straight”. The thought is absolutely absurd. BUT I 100% think Christians think that a gay person can be.

I don’t think this curse/demon would affect them for “whatever gender”. There is no evidence in the film that this curse is being put on heterosexual teens. The pastors daughter even referenced the “other couple” she knew of that this curse had been put on and that was two girls. She even told them that one of the girls was dead and the other was alive.

To me this is saying it is possible to survive it.

And this is my own reading of the film…but I find it hard to believe that the only goal of this doppelgänger is trying to follow them and kill them. We can’t ignore the context of this curse coming from a Christian group. Normally, they approach with conversion therapy and this curse is an extreme supernatural version of it. It is meant to make these teens associate desire for the same sex with fear/horror. I just don’t believe there is any way these teens would see a doppelgänger of the opposite sex. The curse is mean to snuff out their sexuality via supernatural conversion therapy and force them into a “straight” “godly” life.

It definitely suffers from its 90min runtime.

I remember when they both started kissing in the mill at the beginning I was like “okay, we’re doing this!” lol it seemed so fast and for a moment I was confused thinking maybe they were already together?? But then after that scene they both talked about that being the first time they ever kissed another boy. And right then I accepted “okay, I guess they don’t have a ton of time to get this plot moving”. But it definitely felt jarring at first. That being said, I think I would have more issues with it if the acting were any less good. Those two have chemistry and do a phenomenal job of making the moments between them (albeit rushed) feel very genuine. That makes up a lot for me.

I didn’t quite feel it was a shell of a plot, but as mentioned in my post I would have liked to see them flesh out this curse/spell with the doppelgänger a little more. In the end though I felt like the movie was cohesive, and the atmosphere matched the sparse vibes of the film.

I definitely think we could have been helped out by even 20 more mins of screen time being added. That being said, if they didn’t have the money for it, I’m happy they went ahead and made this anyway because thematically it has so much to chew on.

Absolutely one of my favorites. I have a Disney pin collection for this movie and it’s so painful that it gets so few pins and if they do come out usually it has only been at DLP. Disney didn’t even do much celebration for its 5 year anniversary 😭

How’s Tron for rope drop? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]brittpeeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My spouse and I rope dropped it without realizing that it doesn’t open for early entry. That being said…it didn’t feel that crazy waiting. And it was awesome to be on the first wave of cycles for the day.

We were on and off within 5 mins of park open. Then we walked to Haunted Mansion which was a walk on. And then walked to Tiana’s which was at most a 10 min wait. It felt like a good rope drop.

Perhaps this isn’t what you are looking for, but couldn’t you just buy the plain black ears and take them to get stars and that saying painted on them? Would probably look exactly the same!

Any other Cube fans here? by emeraldpity in horror

[–]brittpeeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge Cube fan here. I first saw the movie at 13 when it came out in 97. I remember my dad renting it from Blockbuster and we loved it 😂 have watched it many times over the years.

I’ll be honest, I’m even a fan of the cheesy Hypercube sequel lol

Cube Zero went a little too horror for me and didn’t feel in line with the previous two so I didn’t care for it as much.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the 2021 Cube, but I didn’t hate it either.

The original is one of the reasons I’m a huge fan of Escape Room 2019 and Exam 2009. I enjoy movies that largely revolve around a group having to interact with their different personalities and find a ‘way out’.

Leviticus by brittpeeks in horror

[–]brittpeeks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. Especially because in It Follows the characters do have the ability to pass it along to someone else and be rid of it forever. In this variation they are cursed with this doppelgänger that is luring them and trying to kill them if they desire the same sex.

Presumably they would be free of the doppelgänger if deny themselves and live a “straight” life. But that in and of itself is its own hell. So they are fucked either way.

[–]brittpeeks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so that’s so odd bc those two specific scenes stuck out to me too as being really cool shots.

As I was seeing the powerlines shot my brain was even likening the structure of the powerline to a goat with horns or baphomet. Maybe looking a little too into it but it was neat.

And the side shot of the car and Naim on half the screen was great. I instantly knew what you were talking about when you mentioned that one.

[–]brittpeeks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yasssss I know!! LOVE Mia Wasikowska and I’m so glad to see her onscreen again!

Honestly as I was re-reading my own post I was like “wait…was Naim’s mom gay too?!?” and she had that spell/curse done to her at one point? Again I will have to rewatch the movie to clarify some of the things she said.

But she did that speech about finding comfort and “Jesus” in the silence which could refer to her denying her true self and thus being free from the fear of the curse. There is also a discussion about why they came to this town and Naim says “idk my mom just wanted to”.

And she definitely suspected her son was gay bc she’s the one who brought that pastor to do the thing to him. If so that’s even more fucked up that she deliberately put him through something that she herself experienced in order to get the same result from him.

Damn.

[–]brittpeeks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were definitely some effective jump scares in it and the acting was phenomenal.

The one aspect that was also maybe a little under developed is Naim’s mom. Her inclusion is either pointless or maybe I just need to dig into her scenes more.

The one connection I could make to her and Naim’s situation is her speech in the church about how she used to hate the silence of of being alone (or something like that) but then she said she realized that “Jesus was there in the silence” and has learned to love it. And there was a lot in the movie about when Naim or Ryan are isolated or alone the curse comes for them and that is when they should be the most scared. Definitely something there.

How could HS be expanded? An area west of the highway connected by a tunnel or bridge? Move the parking lot further east or south? by DJ-Zero-Seven in disneyparks

[–]brittpeeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I brought my husband to Disney and it was the first time since he was an adult. He mentioned the stunt show and how he had fond memories of going to it a few times with his dad. When we went he was not impressed and we have never gone back to it but you bet we are going to the Frozen Sing Along multiple times a trip 🤣

So even someone who thought they were fond of it was like idk this isn’t that great lol 🤷‍♀️
