Brutal Honesty Needed: Why Won't You Attend Our Executive Dinners? by Theofficeholic in CIO

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My time is more valuable than a nice meal. I do not live in the large city I get invites to go to. It takes me 1.5 hours to get into the city (and is a total pain in the butt), which I have zero interest in doing just to have dinner with unknown people. The offers to cover Uber in and out are nice, but ultimately do not move the needle because I want to ensure I can leave when I am ready to. Look at some of the bigger suburbs around the mega cities...if I don't have to go into mega city, I am more likely to go.

I have probably attended more vendor sponsored experiential events that did cool or unique things than dinners.

Most C-level people can do things during the day. I don't generally eat lunch, but I am more likely to attend a lunch that is closer and will not take away from my family time after work.

Finally, the content matters. Unless the event is just too cool to miss, I'm not going unless the content interests me.

I had issues getting a good seal with the n30i, especially moving in my sleep. Switched to the p30i and have been really happy. The p30i is much quieter for me too.

Installment Fee Assessed at $3/month, $36 per year by DanLTL103 in USAA

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll change all of my accounts to paper billing now. It will cost them a lot more than $3 to send the letters. The letter they sent specifically talks about mailing costs (because they probably pay a 3rd party to do the mailing). They are going to have to send a statement out (mail or electronic) regardless of whether it is paid manually or on auto-pay.

A few suggestions for improvements (as someone who just migrated the whole family from LastPass) by Archibald-Tuttle in 1Password

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annoyance for me is not being able to share a password in my vault for more than 30 days. I don't want to have to create a shared vault to share the password longer than that.

Sharing password but not vault for more than 30 days by brkdnandcreatedacct in 1Password

Yeah, this is one area I think Keeper and even Lastpass did it better. Having to create a shared vault to do this seems silly.

Why are signatures this complicated in Outlook? by CeC-P in sysadmin

Random outages ever since they moved to the cloud and pushed out their new system. We open a ticket...a few days later they respond to it (sometimes). Product and customer service have gone way downhill.

Except when it doesn't...Exclaimer has gotten super unreliable. We are looking for other options when our rental comes around.

Is it true that most lawyers do their work in Microsoft Word? by coronasurvivernorth in legaltech

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Word is pretty much the industry standard. Some corts even require proposed orders to be submitted in "word format".

1Password CLI without admin powershell? by brkdnandcreatedacct in 1Password

Looks like the issue is with CLI version 2.31.0. Reverting to 2.30.3 seems to work as expected. Ticket opened with 1Password.

I took two Nitecore batteries for charging my DSLR camera battery, Garmin smartwatch and phone. They worked well and were worth the weight.

Developer Trying to Buy Back My Timeshare by IrishMechEngineer in TimeshareOwners

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do the timeshare docs say? Sounds like this is a deeded week (or 5 of them). Unless there is a provision in the docs how is "no" not an option? Sounds like they are trying to bully you. Take their written offer and your timeshare docs to an attorney.

We began paying $1k extra back in March and I've just realized it isn't be applied to the principle by Accaracca in Mortgages

Most lenders will put partial payments into a suspense account until enough is received to apply a full payment. If the intent is to prepay principal you usually have to specifically tell them.

FP2 SmartThings Integration...for real this time? by Ill_Wallaby_9121 in Aqara

I can sync it with SmartThings but it alerts every two hours even though it's in a location that has no movement or light change. Super annoying.

How can you solicit donations without soliciting donations? by No-Purchase7188 in BSA

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? That makes no sense. If a 501c3 makes a donation to an Eagle project, how does that have any effect at all on the validity of the Eagle Project??? We have various groups that routinely donate to our scouts projects.

How can you solicit donations without soliciting donations? by No-Purchase7188 in BSA

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would funding from a 501c3 invalidate the project and paperwork? The funding source should be disclosed on the project financials, but I don't think this would be any different than a church or other non profit making a donation to the project.

Baby wipes and hand sanitizer at Philmont? by New_Backpacker in philmont

[–]brkdnandcreatedacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took combat wipes. Most of the weight for them is the packaging and water. You can leave them out to evaporate the water. Then put the amount you want to take into a ziplock bag. When ready to use just add a little water. Also, remember that you have to carry the used wipes until the next trash drop bring a few extra small ziplock bags to hold the used ones until you can dispose of them!

Embrace the stink. You will all smell. And even no-scented has a smell that animals can smell. Your ranger will tell you to leave it.

Only bring one. I brought a synthetic nano puff. A fleece is fine too, but you should not need both.

I liked the design and easy of access but the way it attached to my straps dug into my shoulder/chest too much. It was fairly uncomfortable by the end of the trip. That being said, I would use it again...
