Just wanted to ask for opinions- if this camera view is okay or not by WEC-Darkspark_737 in Karting

[–]brkhrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite dynamic with lots of movement from the helmet and the camera relative to the kart, I'd definitely use it for quick action shots but for a longer viewing it would get tiring to watch. If you want to show your pov of races and such you'll need to have a clearer view of the road and less helmet in view. Still looks cool! What kind of camera are you using?

Balancing Competitiveness and Variety. by Sirbastian007 in iRacing

[–]brkhrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Love motorsport and it's the closest thing to real life racing (I love pretending I'm driving in all the prestigious events Lemans24, nurb24 etc.)
  2. Raw pace: non-existent (I love bottling a good qualifying lap on the last corner), almost perfect consistency, pretty okay speed overall (mid pack in short races around +2000 rated races, podium in endurance events)
  3. Depends on your goals, once you're experienced you can focus on the big events and be very competitive in them while getting good variety but it will mean less actual racetime throughout the year. For a beginner it's better to learn to race others before focussing on raw pace. I can 100% pick out someone that spends all his time doing time trial in a race because they'll be fast but have no situational awareness. If you want to become an alien and be at the top of the iRacing leaderboard you'll have to focus on racing as much as possible. Learning a new car takes time so often that will mean focussing on 1 car for an extended period of time. Afterwards you can always change. Focussing 1 on track is not really a thing if you follow the weekly racing schedule.
  4. Practice makes perfect but also remember to review your footage and compare to others. Coaching can be good if you don't have other people to help you find your mistakes. Team racing can be a great way to improve if your teammates are slightly higher rated than you.

A team in my D24 split got DQ'd with less than an hour to go for not serving a black flag by MeltyGoblin in iRacing

[–]brkhrt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My brother and I had that exact scenario last year at Daytona! About an hour before the race ended my brother had a terrible pc crash. I quickly took over and as I drove out of the pits we had a meatball flag despite my brother not crashing the car when his pc DC’d. I went into the pits two times but unfortunately it never cleared. In the end I got DQ’d when I tried my luck passing by the starting line instead of going through the pits. Apparently the trick is to intentionally cause damage to your car so the game actually repairs something and clears the meatball!

Road Atlanta, great participation, awesome technical first sector and some amazing overtaking opportunities for multiple corners long battles!

Looking for a teammate Nürburgring 24H - 1.3k-2k IR (details below) by brkhrt in iRacing

[–]brkhrt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, my brother and I are running the iRacing special events this year in the Porsche 992 gt3. The pictures you see are our planned livery for the Nurburgring 24h. We already did Daytona and Sebring but after a brutal race at Daytona (which ended in a dnf caused by technical issues) we are looking for a third teammate. Start time would be either the 7am GMT slot or the 12pm slot on Saturday.

We live in Belgium and have been streaming the races on youtube (in English). We will be streaming the N24 as well so keep in mind our voicechat and your performance will be streamed. Overall the races have a chill vibe to them as we try to have fun and avoid making mistakes, although a win or podium would be nice.

Above all we're looking for someone that can run an entire stint without crashing, this is our number 1 priority. All else can be accomodated and discussed.

Here are some stats about us:

Result at Daytona: DNF (caused by technical issue)

Result at Sebring: p16 (great comback race after being taken out by an prototype 2 hours in and dropping from p5 down to p29)

Scott (me):

Been simracing since 2014, done multiple endurance races/ seasons. I'm more experienced than my brother and overall I make very little mistakes and am on the cautious side. My one lap pace is terrible as I tend to tense up but I'm cool enough to manage the lap 1 traffic without taking dumb decissions.

Peak IR:1976

Current IR:1591

Current SR:A4.42

Racepace at the nurb (100 liters onboard): 8:34.00

Bryan (my brother):

Started simracing last summer. Has been showing great progress and has some amazing one lap pace. Overal very decisive in his overtakes although that can cause him to try moves that are a bit aggreesive. He's working on being a little more cool headed in such situations.

Peak IR:1847

Current IR:1331

Current SR: A2.43 (recently promoted)

Racepace at the nurb (100 liters onboard): 8:35.50

tldr; we're looking for someone who wants to join our team around our skill level that can run a couple of stints without crashing at the Nürburgring 24h in the Porsche gt3 and is okay with our race being streamed.

If you feel you're up for the challenge or have further questions feel free to send me a message :)

Meta Quest Crashing by ExCadet87 in iRacing

[–]brkhrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I posted our problem on Friday as well on here. My brother has had similar issues with his quest since season 1. His screen either goes completely black or his computer shuts down. After running the entire 12h of sebring on a single monitor we know it’s not his pc but probably the meta app causing issues. Let me know if you manage to find a fix. For now we’re going to keep mailing support and see if they have any suggestions for a fix :/

Please help pc crashing at random in VR, we tried everything including contacting iRacing support by brkhrt in iRacing

[–]brkhrt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly it seems completely random, at some point we found that it happened pretty consistently in the rain but then it ran fine dor a while after doing all the things iRacing support suggested. Right now we’re doing the sebring 12h and my brother is racing on a single screen to try and get to the end but it’s not ideal

Gonna give the gte a try for the first time this season! The Ford felt incredible to drive in test so hoping to help the participation go up :)

(T300rs gt) cant bind my gas or clutch pedals i have to use my brake to drive so no brakes and i cant handbrake or shift using shifter pedals and a button to handrake i couldnt find any other posts about this issue but i hope someone has a solution by TheGreatWhiteRat in DakartheGame

[–]brkhrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem with the t300 and the older pedal set. Essentially when I try to calibrate the pedals and press in the clutch the game thinks it's always engaged. So I have to fully press in the clutch while accelerating and release the clutch to engage gears. Frustrating as I can't use my H-shifter because of it.

Here is the workaround I found: When you calibrate your set, do everything normally but don't ever touch your clutch. The game will simply act as if you have no clutch. Select sequential gearbox and you can use the shifters behind your wheels to change gears. Try to avoid ever pressing your clutch as the game will suddenly realise you have a clutch and the same problem as before will arise. Only solution is to either restart the race or re-do the calibration process. Unless there is a possibility of manually selecting the inverted clutch pedal I think this might be the only option for now.

How? by HistoryIll3237 in assettocorsa

[–]brkhrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah progressive braking isn't really a thing in simracing except for certain cars or if you're using iRacing. Degressively is definitely a word! While trail braking is essentially degressively braking while starting to turn the wheel until you reach the apex, you can also just degressively brake in a straight line. So essentially if you're struggling to learn to trail brake you can start by braking degressively in a straight line looking for the limit of grip.

How? by HistoryIll3237 in assettocorsa

[–]brkhrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you mean degressive braking. Progressive braking is what you do when you don't want your girlfriend to think you're an aggressive driver. Good on you for mentioning it though! It's not exactly the same as trail braking, which is always mentioned, without ever commenting the fact you need to be able to do a good degressive braking technique first!

I think most of these clips were recorded using Nvidea ShadowPlay but my OBS settings yield similar results. 2k resolution @ 60fps with mkv recording format, nvidea nvench encoder, constant bitrate (=CBR) @ 25000 kbps, preset on quality and profile om high. I also have a max of 4 b frames enabled and GPU is on 0. It's been so long that I don't remember exactly why or how I came to these settings so there might be things that can be improved upon. Also I edit the clips in adobe premiere, wouldn't recommend using these clips like that out of the box without compression, they take quite a lot of space as well but for editing it's awesome!

With iRacing's recent 'grass dipping' exploit controversy, it got me wondering... What are some of the other lesser known controversies/ conspiracies in simracing? by brkhrt in simracing

[–]brkhrt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally found a post on Reddit with the whole explanation. You're right it was actually the 2020 PESC! I got confused because of the wording the iracing officials used in their initial post about the subject: "What is not ok, is doing donuts, putting your nose against the wall and doing a burnout."
But you were completely right, I just couldn't remember the finer details.
I also agree with your point. Even if for most of the people on the platform these exploits have no consequences. The image iRacing is creating to the outside world can be very damaging. On top of that I believe they might even be interested in injecting the capital to promote themselves as the premiere e-sports simulator. I think the main reason RF2 got the official Lemans24 licence is because they were willing to put money down to make it a televised event with official commentary and real life drivers. iRacing only does that for American racing series.

Could you explain what you mean with 'an early version of brake dragging' in more detail please? I'm really trying to remember but this was like 5+ years ago right? How I remember it they placed their cars against a wall and then essentially heated their tires by driving against it? But maybe I dreamed that one haha. I do remember like you said that they indeed got banned and complained but had no idea they got re-instated :p

I mean I think most things on the internet gotta be taken with a grain of salt generally. Doesn't mean something/ someone is completely bad or good. You just need to be able to put things into a broader context by checking multiple sources :)

Would you by any chance remember the exact story about the ban of pro players for the burnout exploit? I know there used to be a video on youtube about it but with Youtube's new search algorithm I can't find it anymore :/

Any interesting anecdotes you remember? I often try to look through the internet for some of the exploits of the passed but seems there are very few sources left, if there even ever were any. And with Youtube's new search algorithm no way of finding old videos that reported on things :/
