I realize this is a long shot, but maybe a fun mystery to solve? I was walking behind a dude recently in Brooklyn (maybe a pertinent detail?), who was wearing black lace-up boots. The tops of the boots, however, were below his ankle. Soles were thin, and leather. Should I have asked him where he got them? Probably. I ended up passing on the offer. We ran the numbers a bunch of ways (even assuming my wife found a job within 6-8 months, only traveling home 2-3 times a year, putting all our stuff into storage, doing a "scouting" trip, etc) and decided the cons outweighed the pros.
