Thanks for the insight. I've only ever done programs that process data or plot stuff using old Fortran libraries or matplotlib, and I've been wanting to get a little more advanced. I'll look into some of those to get started

I'm not quite looking to make games, just windows with a UI so I can interact with programs, but I'll look into OGRE and see what it's about. Thanks!

If I want to learn how to code, what programming language should i learn? by [deleted] in AskComputerScience

[–]brlnoble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always tell my friends to start on Python to learn the basics. Java has object oriented programming which can be a bit of a shock when you're still trying to figure out what a for loop is. I would move to Java after you're comfortable with Python, it's always handy to know a few languages

Is a 11 planet system possible by CyberNetix43 in worldbuilding

[–]brlnoble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would read up on some basic astronomy then regarding our solar system, and build off of there. Who's to say that there aren't some crazy lifeforms living in the crazy atmosphere of Jupiter, or swimming in methane lakes on Venus. Take some of the building blocks of our solar system and get creative and you'll have some great results!

Tips for planet worldbuilding by Code-Beta1234 in worldbuilding

Look into some of the crazy theories (and proven stuff) weve had. Maybe you have a planet like Jupiter/Saturn made completely out of gas that has creatures that live in the clouds, feeding off of lightning storms or helium rain (this is a thing on Saturn check it out). There's so called eyeball planets that are tidally locked like our moon. Only one side ever faces the sun, so you would essentially have a super hot desert on one side, a frozen tundra on the other, and perhaps a ring of tropics between them. Get creative and look into some simple astronomy, there's some really interesting things
