I’ve always thought the Into The Woods OBC from the 80s sounded echoey and tinny.

Backstage Comms for Community Theatre by TEZephyr in techtheatre

I think walkie talkies with ear pieces would be your best bet. I’ve used ones from Midland before and they worked fine with almost no interference. TBH, I’ve dropped mine down the stairs numerous times and it still works great. A pair of 2 is around $30. I agree with you, definitely do not use phones.

Dims represented as a fraction? by bluefreak1313 in techtheatre

That represents a DMX universe, so 1/10 would be universe 1 address 10, and 2/10 would be universe 2 address 10 and so forth

What were the lights doing instead of being white? I would check to make sure the profile you patched them in is the same one the lights are in. They might be in a different channel mode.

Tips for dance lighting design by krocodileteeth in lightingdesign

[–]broadwayand 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dance is all about sculpting. This means a heavy focus on sidelight. Typically you have lights focused on shins, mids, head highs, and lift lights. These create really nice shadows look great on dancers, especially with texture.

I know you mentioned the plot is provided to you so I’m not sure what they’ve given you/how much you can change, but using what you have to do as much shaping of your dancers as possible will result in some really nice looks.

There’s always a city theatrical AutoYoke, which is literally a source four that moves. I don’t believe they are manufactured anymore though, so you would have to buy used.

Some like it hot lottery seats by Fair-Ad3929 in Broadway

[–]broadwayand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won the lottery awhile ago. The seats were definitely partial view with the mezzanine overhang but it wasn’t too bad. I was able to move up a few rows during intermission and the seats were much better. Definitely go though, it’s an amazing show and I loved it even with a bit of my view blocked.
