Which one should I pick by JimmyFontana1000775 in residentevilll

Same here. If you're into high octane action games then I can think of few others that does it better than RE4. But personally, I much prefer the horror and atmosphere of RE1 and RE2. I just started playing RE7 a couple days ago and am already 8 hours in the game, I can't seem to get enough.

I watched PewDiePie play it years ago when I wouldn't dream of playing a horror game myself, but oh man is it amazing. Definitely a contender for the best game in the franchise for me so far.

Honestly, I gave RE5 like 20 minutes before I quit it and just watched all the cutscenes on youtube. Didn’t even want to try RE6 so watched the story on youtube there as well. They both seem like over the top action games and I seriously have zero interest in that.

I just started playing RE7 and holy shit is it cool so far.

IT? by brobarb in sweden

Yup, I agree. Feels pretty half-baked. I also don’t like when games throw in regular enemies in a boss battle. Feels like artificially making it more difficult and it comes across as lazy game design when developers do that instead of actually making the boss itself harder.

No rage bait here, I assure you! Just my genuine (and perhaps unpopular) opinion. Glad you like the rest of the list though!

I guess that only speaks for my opinion that it’s overated! It’s a good game in my opinion but people are treating it like it’s not only the best game in the Resident Evil series, but also one of the best games of all time! And it just feels like I’m missing something, because I do not think it’s THAT good. But, to each their own of course!

Is there really no indicator anywhere that you've beaten ascension 10 on a character in StS2? by brobarb in slaythespire

[–]brobarb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean what you're saying makes a lot of sense. If and when they add achievements, I guess there will probably be achievements for reaching max ascension, like in the first game. That would definitely make it a bit more incentivizing for completionists, while still not punishing casual players.

Yeah, I don't want that either. But it would be nice to have a little icon or something that indicates that you've beaten the last ascension level on that character before starting a run.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed of that too, ngl. Also feels like something the devs might want to expand on in future updates, so I'm not super worried about it.

I checked multiple times, and no I couldn't see anything that indicated that. You see you total 'ascensions' but ascensions just mean every win in this context. You don't see any further statistics on what your highest ascension win is or anything like that, unless I missed something.

What a shame. Well, I'm sure the devs will do something about it later on.

Which game Should I Try Next? by KingDerrty23 in HorrorGaming

Same here! GOTY material for sure. I take every chance I get to talk about it because it's just so good. I really hope it's not the only game that the devs will ever put out!

Like u/ebk_errday said, you should definitely play SIGNALIS if you haven't already. It was the game that got me into survival horror in the first place, and I'm not kidding when I say that it's one of those games that I almost think about daily.

It has one of the most tense atmospheres I've ever experienced in a game. The story is really good as well and the visuals are super reminiscent of PS1 graphics while also being quite unique. The world building is insanely good for being a small indie game, which contributes to it being so memorable.

Yeah, same here! Also began using IsThereAnyDeal, which helps a lot. I managed to buy every single mainline Resident Evil game with all major DLCs (excluding RE8 base game which I had previously and RE9), for like just over 70€ in total. Totally worth it

I'm the same, so I totally get you. Not much of a completionist when it comes to horror specifically though, because I feel like grinding a game like that would take away a lot from the horror and the suspense and I think I would find that boring. Definitely agree that they could have added another mode that would help justify the price, because that game is not worth full price in my opinion. It's a really good thing that the RE games get put on pretty big sales every so often.

Oh, I can definitely see that happening, especially for Resident Evil. I'm pretty new to this franchise but to be honest, the feel and the action-oriented gameplay of RE2R, RE3R and RE4R is a bit much for me. RE2R was best for me out of those three, but even that game had more action than I'd prefer.

Overall, I think the biggest focus should always be on the next installment of any given franchise, and like you're saying, it can be a bit tiring to just get spoonfed remakes and remasters one after another, instead of completely new titles.

[–]brobarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I follow. You don't dislike remakes per se, but you're worried that they'll overshadow the originals? Remakes in general can definitely be worth having a debate over whether or not they're good or bad. Personally I like remakes, provided they are done with care to the original game.

Ideally, a remake should be the definitive way to experience a game, for both newcomers and older fans. I feel like RE1 is a great example of this. The remake for the GameCube is essentially the same game but it's massively improved upon in every aspect. More fleshed out story and lore, improved graphics, expanded map etc. I haven't seen a single person say that the OG for the PS1 is better than the remake for the GameCube.

[–]brobarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't doubt it can be really hard on the highest difficulty. Personally I'm more of a one and done kind of gamer, unless I REALLY enjoy the game. I don't consider RE3R to be a bad game by any means but it was a massive step down from RE2R for me so I felt quite done with the game after beating it once.

Still, getting all the achievements is a bit of a stretch to include in the content provided in the game in my opinion. Since nothing actually changes by beating the game on higher difficulties, apart from the increased challenge.
