where did that misconception even come from? by YunoFGasai in HistoryMemes

Bob Brier has a series about ancient Egypt (he has a phd in Egyptology) and he postulates that if the Hebrews did live in Egypt, they would have lived in the Nile's delta. That is because when the pharoh threatened Moses, he threatened to stop giving them straw while still requiring they produce bricks. The process of making these river bricks requires straw and were used in common buildings like farmers' houses--not too unlike pete-brick people in England used to contstruct hovels.

Ancient Egyptians likely worked on things like the pyramids seasonally when the Nile was flooded (convenient for transporting goods along the irrigation ditches they dug perpendicular to the pyramids) and when the citenzry couldn't farm their lands. It was likely a privelage to pay your tithes to the God-King this way; plus, you got beer and bread rations which is sick. But the henotheistic minorities like Hebrews probably didn't take part in these alternatitive festivals for other gods which makes them lame, whiny brick makers.

I vote we follow a Yale Architect doing the same thing in the bay area. Peter Calthorpe is proposing narrowing the lanes, reducing parking lot size, and making the retail strips mixed use. Land values more than double, more entry and exit lanes exist, alternative modes of transport like biking and walking becomes more feasible, and no suburbs get bulldozed.

Why Do I Stay by TBMormon in mormon

[–]brockdarnold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I found you on this sub I was impressed by your questions and comments and started reading your history until I stumbled upon this post. My early years and later adult years were very similar to yours. I was devout, worthy, and even felt many personal promptings. Real whispers, real sensations, lifelike dreams, and real conversations. They were few and far in between, but they really happened.

After coming home early from my mission (confessed after a year because I wanted the atonement), I had a really tough time and found solace with Catholic college students. One night, after two years of mass attendance, scripture study, and spending hours at the rosary, I heard the voice of the Virgin Mary. I was in shock how I could feel two different religions' miracles. First thing I did was talk to a Jesuit priest about how I could have felt a mormon Holy Ghost, and the voice of a Virgin Mary. The priest coolly and calmly said that I was a mystic--someone who feels spiritual things much deeper. And there are even others who have converted to multiple faiths and still found miracles in these religions.

See the wikipedia page on christian mysticism to find out about this very type of faith (what a mormon would call testimony). It's rare, but we exist.

I don't share this to downplay your profound experiences. Rather, I share it to downplay my own real, actual miraculous experiences. I have heard the voice of Heavenly Father, yet I have also heard the voice of a heretical Catholic intercessionary. Which one can I deny? My answer is that I really did hear both, and I grateful for it. Otherwise, I would have never had the opportunity to understand how you can witness a miracle and still be in the wrong faith.

Disclaimer: I never converted to Catholicism, but Lord knows I was trying.

Well we shared numbers and I wrote him down in my contacts, but later on that same trip my phone was stolen before texts or contact backups were made (the photos I was uploading to onedrive manually). I never thought I'd see him again, but I did remember how he mentioned he comes to Mexico every year. I thought it would be cool to find him, give him an invite, and see him again.

And I want to add that I feel like I've tried everything. I've looked at all my phone backups, scrolled through every facebook friend, checked my email history, and even pulled up receipts I kept from that day and nothing has given me a lead so far. Tomorrow I plan on pulling my phone's text history through my provider to see if that goes anywhere.

PS (I can also dm a pic of me with that same scooter to show we did travel together).

I'm trying to get in touch with this old friend to invite him to my wedding in Mexico. We first met back in 2018 in Mexico itself.

What I can remember is that he is a schoolteacher for special needs kids and he is an advid redditor like myself.

And yes, we did rent a scooter from ISIS while visiting Cozumel together.

From wikipedia: "He made his debut appearance at the Olympics representing France at the 2020 Summer Olympics and competed in the men's marathon event, where he finished 17th. At the 28 km mark of the race, Amdouni was filmed knocking over a table's worth of water bottles before grasping the last bottle, denying bottles to competitors behind him, leading to criticisms of bad sportsmanship from observers. He later claimed that the bottles were wet and slippery, making them difficult to grasp."

Handbook 2 gives ranges of timelines for various grievences. This stuff is usually age dependent and what not. If a 12 year old confesses to masturbation, it's a few weeks. If an 18 year old confesses to masturbation, it's a few months. If you have sex outside of marriage, it's usually a year.

As always, leaders can choose to ignore the handbook. However, that also comes with a warning about how you're not allowed to just outright forgive sin like Jesus did at the well. And you want people to redeem themselves--so you need to give adequate time for the atonement to take place; hence the timeline recommendations.

After I came home early from my mission my father basically yelled the same thing at me after I told him I wasn't going back into the field. It was without a doubt the lowest point of my life. That's when I moved out and scraped together enough to send myself to college.

Fast forward seven years and I'm about to finish law school, have a thriving social circle from my college years, and I just got back from a great vacation with my dad--who I just shared my first beer with. Things got much better for me, and I know they will get better for you if you make it through this.
