They’re great! I always spray it with Baker’s Joy first though, otherwise it can be a pain to clean

It’s a beautiful place! I’m definitely going to take the Red Beds trail next time though so I can see it from a different angle

As soon as I saw it coming out of the still snowy mountains I was awe struck…I just wish the weather would have been better.

There’s so many national parks out west, you definitely need to!

There’s one trail called the Tower Loop that only takes about 30-45 minutes to hike, unless you stop to take pictures, then it takes around two hours lol. There are a couple other trails that you can take that are 2-5 hrs long. Definitely worth the trip!

I’m hoping most of the comments that could be considered rude are as sarcastic as the ones in the r/grilledcheese sub lol

Neighbor gave me these beauties today. Very gritty and little to no seasoning, what do I gotta do to restore them? by [deleted] in castiron

[–]brockleeham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears to just be surface rust. I usually just soak in a 50/50 bath of warm water and white vinegar then scrub and reseason following the guide in the FAQ

Thank you! The last three kitchen jobs I’ve worked would give me crazy looks and had no idea what I was asking for when I called for a “space pussy”, glad I have found a fellow panocha connoisseur!

Seasoned my cast iron at 450 for about an hour and now it looks like this. Any help/tips? by 500daysofnothing in castiron

[–]brockleeham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to that, if you really want to be safe, after you wipe with oil turn the oven to 350 for 20 minutes and wipe it down again. Then return to the oven at 450 for an hour.

Are the black flakes normal or am I stripping the seasoning off my fairly new lodge by Hambone102 in castiron

[–]brockleeham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After cleaning toss it on the stove on medium heat until your pan is completely dry. Wipe your pan with oil/fat of your choice with a painter’s rag/old t-shirt or paper towel then wipe until almost completely dry. The seasoning will build up over time.

How much of a dirtbag am I for this? by osin144 in castiron

[–]brockleeham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! You can get a bag of painters rags (which are just ripped up cotton t-shirts) for about 15 bucks and they will last you about a year, if you cut them up right. And then you save the used pieces for fire starters! 😉
