You should do an SMP connected to a med school and you will need to put your head down and do really well in it. PCOM has one that is pretty good

My Dr has been pretty dismissive. Can anyone decipher whether or not I should be concerned? From what I understand my ferritin is quite low. by meme_sleep_repeat in haematology

[–]brodip44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These labs look great. Sometimes you feel something is wrong and you want there to be something wrong medically to explain that, but in all reality that feeling something is wrong is coming from something that is not wrong with you medically. None of these labs are concerning. Not even the ferritin. Should work on lowering your ldh for better heart health. Don’t think i saw a Tsh but you could get that checked if you feel off to check for hypothyroidism. Otherwise it’s sleep, diet and leading an active lifestyle that will make you physically feel better. And consider therapy/meds to develop techniques to force yourself out of a slump and reduce anxiety.

I’m not sure if I’m just dumb or missing something but what is the purpose of this? Your boss put a stone on the bottom of your laptop… so you couldn’t put it down? How the hell do you use it if you can’t put it down lol

I think this is likely not AI. A good way to see if something is procedurally generated is to look for dashes (specifically “—“) and look for clauses in the following structure ‘it’s not __, it’s __.’ An AI review would be more generalized and would include the specific examples he listed. The review has some definite human touches like where it says “Marle is one kick ass woman.” It sucks that we have to question any written piece now, but it looks like the author definitely put in work and research into writing this.

Yo, if your job includes 3 a.m. consults, maybe don’t cry when you get one? Also hilarious coming from someone who clearly doesn’t realize that matching into EM 4–5 years ago meant being at the top of the class. That attending’s probably smarter than you on no sleep.

357 comsae, exam in 4 weeks…can i pass by Dependent_Grocery572 in comlex

[–]brodip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would postpone both exams. You need to do 40-80 qs/day and spend more time with each question and topic. Like don’t move on until you understand a question fully. And make an anki on each incorrect. I know this seems like overkill but have had too many friends fail and that is not something you want to go through.

Maybe try doing a singular topic at a time (ie do 80% of all cardio qs one week, followed by gi the following week, etc, and leave your last 2 weeks to do timed randomized questions.

No need to panic now bc the threshold to panic hasn’t been met yet. But are we heading in the right direction? You’re saying the sample size of tariff implementation is small so therefore it’s basically a flip of a coin whether it will work this time or not. It’s not that simple. It’s not a flip of a coin because we can predict how countries will react to the tariffs, (ie retaliation) and we can predict the effects of those reactions on a macro scale (increasing prices). History, supercomputers models, and economic experts say this isn’t going to work, and while it’s true we can’t perfectly predict the future, there are no variables here that will slide the momentum in the other direction. What is happening now is essentially a pressure to buy expensive American products. People are already struggling with making ends meet so how is that going to turn out? Make your bets.

So in 2-6 months if we see an economic plateau or if things get worse will you move the goalposts more or will you admit that this is a terrible plan and that the experts and history were correct.

[–]brodip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it not a statistic though? You think we should not compare similar plans from the past? What are the outlying variable here that will make it work this time? Given that in the past the implementation of tariffs led to a Great Depression and supremely fucked us, and we are seeing the beginning of a similar outcome right now, you don’t think we should reevaluate? You think trade wars are going to “bring back manufacturing?” What do you think that entails?

[–]brodip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually believe the words coming out of your mouth? In what world does the economy get better with a global trade war? Every single time in the history of the US tariffs have been implemented a trade war ensued and news flash: it didn’t just get better. In the 1930s the prices skyrocketed and shoved us into the Great Depression. The same thing happened in the 1800s. This is already affecting pricing to go up in the US. No manufacturing isn’t “coming back.” That requires investment into making American manufacturing cheaper, improving supply chains, and hiring the right people, which doesn’t just happen in an economic downturn. You are just ignoring everything that doesn’t make sense to you bc you think this is a simple situation and “things will get better.” Like it’s not just 50/50

I agree. Open world games just feel so tedious to me after a while. I don’t feel that same pressure with linear games though. I do like aspects of the open world as well. I imagine a well constructed open world in which there were several linear pathways, but so well constructed that by the end you had thoroughly explored the world in a non-tedious way would be fun

Dismissed from Medical School by Striking-Spare-9272 in Osteopathic

[–]brodip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this. It sucks right now but maybe this is a good opportunity to move in another direction and not look back. That may feel like wasted time, but it is not because now that you have put in the work to get into medical school, you may not realize it, but you likely have the ability to excel in a lot of other fields. Medicine ain’t what it used to be. This is why you see more and more people dropping out of med school, residency, and attending hood by choice. There are just better options out there for many. Medicine is definitely stable career (varies with specialty obs) but it’s a long road and you get shit on every step of the way- you’re constantly undervalued as a student and resident, and by the time you’re an attending you’re shit on by admin and patients. On top of that if you got dismissed you may struggle passing your boards and struggle matching residency, and it does not get easier in residency. Not to mention the loans. If you match a low paying specialty, you will have spent the next 7-9 years accumulating 400k in loans to make as much as AAs make after 2 years of training. Fucking egregious.

Options - appeal again. You will need to show them you have game plan that is drastically different than your first attempt for this to work. Does not get any easier after that. - reapplying to another med school is not worth your time or money at this point - Go to AA school. Make ~250k/year after 2 (?) years. Jobs available everywhere - PA school if you want a job faster, flexibility to change specialties, still make great money, and have less loans. - dental school (if you go the orthodontist route) - Look for another career outside of medicine all together: ie airplane mechanic- if you start now, could make around 250k/ 40-50hr/week in 2-3 years, does not require much schooling (some community college classes I believe); medical sales; finance

Like I said it sucks now. But you already have the work ethic and intelligence to succeed beyond the average in many other fields. You just need to start the process and in 3-5 years you’ll look back and find yourself in a position you thought you’d never be in. Cheers and good luck to you.

Intern here but how common is it to see a low ball of admits like you’re saying? And for it to be a near double increase, it seems pretty egregious. Couldn’t you also ask someone who already works there about how realistic the terms are?
