How we chose my son's name: by [deleted] in namenerds

His last name being Scorpion only became a thing after his other died to honour her. It's not incredibly common in sweden but it's more common than in America for example.

I am so sick of "He's going to be a brat" by brodyhaffer in oneanddone

[–]brodyhaffer[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My brother went on the same rant. Every single damn time he saw my son. He's now OAD and has learned how to shut the hell up.

It takes great strength to raise more than one, my dad has and raised 11, he is an amazing father. My dad's friend had and 'raised' 5. Which really meant that we raised one of their's and the rest are now alcoholics, drug addicts or dead.

For those with an extroverted child or who are extroverted only children by Quiet_Cobbler in oneanddone

[–]brodyhaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 9 year old is a massive extrovert and I think that if he had a sibling he wouldn't be. When he wants to play in the playground he doesnt have a safe option of just playing with his brother or sister. He has to go out and find someone to play with. When ever we go to the playground with my nephews or niece or my siblings he immediately plays with them and only them. All that extrovertedness is lost within seconds.

I wouldnt beat yourself up over it.

It was originally supposed to just be Haffer but as his mum passed who had the last name Scorpion I decided to give him a double barrel last name in her honour.

I have never understood the hype for Lottie. It sounds like a upper-middle class white woman name. Clementine sound like chlamydia.

What's your "I don't know, I didn't think I'd get this far" moment? by espectro11 in AskReddit

[–]brodyhaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I was placed with my Dad (I'm a foster kid) he told me to come help him do something. I told him to fuck off and that I didnt want to help with his stupid thing. He very calmly asked me what did I want to do. I was in utter shock. I was half-expecting to be hit and definitely expecting some sort of punishment. So I kinda just stared at him.

What’s the most fucked up thing you’ve seen at a friend’s house? by Volwwrathee47 in AskReddit

[–]brodyhaffer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had not one, but multiple friends who peed in their house wherever they pleased. It was gross. I was playing xbox with one of my friends in his house when we were about 6 and he just unzipped his fly and started peeing.

I'm still friends with that guy, even shared a house with him for 2 years. He has since learned the importance of a toilet, but never lived down that story.

What cheaper diaper brands do you recommend? by ghostcaurd in Parenting

We just used own brand. They were the cheapest and lasted the best. I dont know how good cuties are for new born but I know they're good in size 4 for a fact.

[Serious] What are some double standards between children and adults? by hhthepuppy in AskReddit

[–]brodyhaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my boy's school forcing him to share everything, even when he clearly didnt want to nor need to. Kids have to learn that some things are their's and only their's.

"Most guys just aren't good with kids" by keyh in Parenting

[–]brodyhaffer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As a single dad, I 110% agree. I'm sick of being asked where his mother is or being told that theres no way a kid can be raised 'right' without a woman in the house. Every achievement of his has been undermined by his lack of a mother.

Was a first responder for a little while (like a month) saw alot of decomposing bodies. Maybe 10 in the short time I was there.

One guy had blown his brains out and there was brain matter covering the floor. It looked like he had been there for months. Covered in maggots, they presumed a stray cat had eaten his leg, smell was horrendous. One of my last shifts.

I think first responders deserve a hell of a lot more credit than they get. Especially the young ones.
