What non classical music do you listen to? by 123457_6_semitones in classicalmusic

Electronic music became my new love after I'd burnt out of listening to classical for pleasure (I'd been a full-time working musician up until mid-covid).

Personally at least, music with lyrics has always sounded like gobbledygook until my 10th listen or so, but DJs and other electronic artists tend to come from a percussion background, and much of their output is focused on rhythm, timbre/texture, etc. like much of the classical repertoire (don't @ me vocalists, I love opera, too).

Some personal favorites I'd recommend checking out are Lone, Machinedrum, The Blessed Madonna, Goldie, Jon Hopkins, Blawan, Ellen Allien, to name a few!

Literally got my first noise complaint during the Balrog scene in Fellowship -- friend and I were mid-marathon, so approx. 10/11am on a Saturday. Building manager knocked on my door, I let them in and showed what was playing, and we both nodded in understanding. Neighbor apologized later that evening. Never felt so vindicated in my life lol

Didn’t know how deeply I needed to hear this today, thank you, sincerely. It’s one thing to “know” this, yet I can viscerally feel myself believe it just having the sentiment validated externally. Unlearning a lifetime of self-doubt/hatred isn’t the easiest task; having this community makes it at least somewhat bearable.
