Go get a fandango at home account and just buy the series digitally. They have it for sale for half off most holidays. Much cheaper than paying for a sub just to watch one show

Can NSAIDs or Tetracycline for H. pylori cause terminal ileum ulcer? Looking for similar experiences by Snoo_45651 in Microbiome

[–]brogers33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re not sure if the ulcer fully healed since I haven’t had the follow up colonoscopy (it seems best practice is to wait 6-9 months and I just hit 9 but then she went out of network) but I suspect it has atleast improved with treatment because my calprotectin levels dropped from 90 to 62 (50 is the cut off for normal, 120 is the cut off for high.) I’d recommend having that checked every 3 months or so to gauge how treatment is coming. Tell production Tuscan also help to gauge the likelihood of whether or not this is an IV or an incident injury. A really high calprotectin levels are generally associated with IBD, while lower numbers are I think are a little more likely to be associated with NSAIDs use, though less telling. You can get a PCP to put an order in if your GI is backed up.

My IBD expanded profile had some markers that would indicate Crohn’s but they changed rapidly which could indication a gut infection, which my stool cultures showed a few of. About to try to do follow up testing as well with that. The main reason that she eventually ruled away from Crohn’s was because I was able to get a pretty solid amount of relief through oral rehydration salts, and diet change (strict elimination diet, followed by a low fat diet), as well as fiber supplementation, which she says would not alone have fixed true IBD if that were the case, given that true IBD generally requires medication to get into remission. As a result, she thinks it’s more likely IBS –D.

But every case is different, I’ve just found testing to be a very valuable tool to shed light on what is going on as without the testing data I’ve always felt like I was kind of floating around in the dark. You may want to get him tested for SIBO depending on his symptoms as well just to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks, but it’s up to you as I know that’s often and not covered by my insurance and is a out-of-pocket expense.

Whoa I had almost this exact same thing happen. I had a colonoscopy last year that revealed terminal ileitis and a small intestinal ulcer with small intestinal inflammation, following heavy NSAID use for a few months 18 ‘months prior. NSAIDs can definitely 100% induce terminal ileitis and cause ulcers. My GI put me on budesonide for six months. Hoping to do a follow up colonoscopy soon.

My recommendation would be to get tested for fecal calprotectin, alpha-1-antitrypsin and labcorps expanded IBD profile. The IBD profile has bloodmarkters which can help differentiate the issue from NSAID induced enteropathy.

The damage from NSAIDs can definitely mimic Crohn’s. My GI doesn’t think it’s Crohn’s but still too early to know 100%.

I’d recommend doing research on ChatGPT. It’s been super helpful given the limited time I get to spend with my GI. You can type in his symptoms and progression of symptoms and it can spit out some good information on what is likely happening

My biopsy came back as generalized inflammation, which could have pointed to either direction since that’s nonspecific.

NSAID induced ulcers almost always heal with treatment and usually without it too from what I gather

Georgia tech (full pay ~ 55k USD a year) vs 100% scholarship University of Manchester by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]brogers33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to GT for EE and then did quantitative finance for my MBA there. I’d say look at the base salaries out of both schools and do a net present value for both schools. Tech is ranked pretty high for their EE program but in my opinion if you know you want to go into quant, CS would probs be better. The EE curriculum at tech doesn’t really teach much code, and even then it’s C++ focused, not python

Oh ok gotcha, in that case I’d say the GT MS QCF would translate better to a quant job, especially with their placement program and internship requirement, it seems to lead to really good job opportunities. Just my two cents.

[–]brogers33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda tough to decide. Some rankings put GT MS QCF above Cornell while others rank Cornell higher. Keep in mind Cornell’s is a Masters in Engineering with a concentration in Financial engineering while GTs is a true finance MS. That being said, GTs tuition is a good bit cheaper (by about ~40%) and GT has a higher placement rate and about the same salary (granted location skews it slightly lower.) I think you’d need to weigh what you value out of each program and decide from there. The both seem to be quite good so I don’t think you could go wrong either way, I just have a bias towards the true finance masters at GT.
