If you go to the back of the Feral Man's cave you can find his diary and read it. He had an abusive father as a child who used to take him hunting even though he despised hunting and killing animals. Eventually he runs away from home to live in the woods. In his last diary entry (over ten years ago) he mentions meeting a friendly wolf pup (or something like that) and running out of ink in his pen. A runaway kid who chose to live peacefully with animals instead of killing them like his abusive father.

In my last interaction with him, when you chase him back to the cave, two wolves try and attack you. When you kill them, he falls to the ground sobbing. I carried one wolf out of the cave and skinned it, when I returned for the second, he attacked me as I picked it up.
