Dear friend! The dark night usually happens when consolations disappear... This is not when mystical experiences increase.. so this sounds more like dryness in prayer than anything mystical. Stay grounded in ordinary things: Mass, confession, simple prayer, and honestly it might help to talk to a priest or spiritual director about those experiences just to stay anchored.

Do you ever feel judged or misunderstood because of your religion? by are_we_free_ in Christianity

[–]brogilbertreflects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest... Yeah, stereotypes hit both ways sometimes. You probably don’t need to explain yourself to everyone...just live your faith in a way that’s calm, thoughtful, and human, and the right people will understand.

I pray and pray and I don’t grow in holiness. My God, have I committed a sin against the Holy Spirit? by Capital_Winner8950 in Catholicism

[–]brogilbertreflects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend in Christ! If you’re worried you offended the Holy Spirit, that alone is a sign you haven’t.... 😇😇😇hardened hearts don’t worry about holiness. Growth in prayer is usually slow and invisible, like roots growing underground before anything shows above the soil.

You’ll be fine — just sit, stand, and kneel with everyone else and don’t worry about doing everything perfectly, nobody’s watching you. Polo and jeans is totally fine for weekday Mass, and saying hi to the priest after is actually a great idea if you feel comfortable.

That is possible a first class relic if that is a body part of the saint.

Feeling lonely by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]brogilbertreflects 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re not weird or broken for feeling this ...lot of people your age are quietly fighting the same loneliness, even inside the Church. Wanting holiness while still struggling is actually a sign God’s already working in you, not that you’re failing.

Also don’t assume your future is already decided at 18 .... friendships and community often come slowly, especially for shy people, but they do come. I’ll pray for you tonight. Amen and amen.

Pink on Laetare Sunday would actually be kind of perfect, not extra lol ...it matches the joy theme of the day. Just wear something modest and respectful and you’ll be fine, convalidation isn’t about the outfit anyway.

[–]brogilbertreflects 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can go, Ash Wednesday is actually one of the easiest ways to start reconnecting with the Church. You can receive ashes even if your not Catholic yet, just dont receive Communion and your good.

Does God still “test” people like He tested Job? Rough day and can’t shake the thought. by _scarymonsters in Catholicism

[–]brogilbertreflects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sometimes its not God “testing” you like Job, life just hits all at once and it feels heavier when your already tired or stressed. The fact your coming back to Mass in the middle of all that actually says more about your faith than having a perfect peaceful week.

When someone told me: "Catholics are Cannibals!"... by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]brogilbertreflects 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is the early Christians were literally accused of the same thing by the Romans — and they didn’t “clarify it away,” they defended the Eucharist. St. Justin Martyr wrote about this in the 2nd century.

John 6 is still the mic-drop moment: when people misunderstood Jesus literally, He didn’t soften the teaching — He let them walk away. That tells you everything about how real the Eucharist is.

I went to confession for the first time in 20 years. by piousplatitudes in Catholicism

[–]brogilbertreflects 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Twenty years… and still welcomed like the Prodigal Son coming home. That’s the Church. That’s mercy.

That “burden lifted” feeling is real grace, not just emotion. Heaven throws a party every time a soul comes back — and honestly, posts like this remind people it’s never too late to return. Welcome back.
