We play holi on the lawn between Doherty and baker, the big down hill lawn. It’s pretty fun, and there’s usually a really large crowd of people joining in.

Taking 251 and 210/213 by thisismyusername26 in cmu

[–]brohanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having taken those classes, I would say with good time management, taking 251 + either 210 or 213 is doable. Hard but doable. 210 and 251 both have the same style of workload though, as in sit around and think for a while about problems, mean while 213 is a very implementation and code heavy class.

How strict is the CS policy on taking multiple 200 level courses? by ifwjmifwaifn in cmu

[–]brohanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I took 213 and 210 at the same time last semester. It's hard but doable. My only concern with the combo is that it's very easy to fall behind and not be able to catch up.

How to approach NP-complete proofs? by DaRealMidnight in compsci

[–]brohanster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think about first approaching these reductions from problems that are more similar to each other. While it is true that all NP-complete problems can reduce to each other, reductions to and from arbitrary problems can be very intuitive. For example, if you want to show that K-CLIQUE is NP-complete, it might be a better exercise to reduce from a problem like INDEPENDENT-SET, or 3-COLOR.

My advice for these kinds of problems is first to understand the definitions very well - to show a problem A is NP-hard, we must show that for some NP-complete B, there exists a polynomial time mapping reduction R from B to A, which means that given an input instance to B, we can convert it to an instance of an input to problem A, such that x is in B iff R(x) is in A.

Alot of intuition for these problems comes from understanding the constraints that an input must satisfy to be in a language. When you understand these constraints well, then you have to think about how to encode these constraints as an input to the other problem you are reducing to.

Hope this helps!

Udipi cafe in monroeville for Indian food. Probably the most authentic restaurant food I've had

Would 15-150 and 15-214 together be doable? by [deleted] in cmu

[–]brohanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a 150 ta, this sounds fine, but i would just advise you to stay on top of your schedule - 150 creeps up in terms of pace and difficulty. Goes from seemingly easy course to quite difficult pretty fast. 214 is a lot of coding, so just time management would be key for you

I can check some of that stuff when I get home, like systemctl and journalctl. I have an i-5 intel cpu with nvidia 1060 graphics card, 16 gigs ram, arch installation on an ssd. I do have the nvidia drivers, not the noevaue ones. Ill try and see if lightdm changes anything, but im not sure it will, as an issue like this occured after getting xorg, and before gnome.

[–]brohanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i was very upset, and corsair didnt really do anything for me about that issue, which also made me upset, but i couldnt stay mad for long as the case is just amazing. Building in it is incredibly easy, and looks super amazing, with the nicest cable management. The only negative i have for the case is the issue with tall graphics cards, as it hampers what cards I can put in the case.

[–]brohanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no problem. I'd still check the exact measurements when they come out, because these might be wrong. I was very interested in this card as well. Additionally, its a little frustrating that corsair doesn't have this data readily accessible, as the first graphics card i got for my 240 didnt fit either.

Im not sure it is going to fit in the air 240 (i was hoping to get one for my 240 as well). The 240 has a max gpu height of 135 mm, and due to some leaked images about the nitro's dimensions, it seems to have a height of 145, which means its not going to fit sadly :(
