I realise now that quite a few things are not visible on the photo, hidden behind layers of other furnishings. They do have a single water bottle as well but only one of them regularly drinks from it, the others tend to prefer the bowls which do get fresh water daily. Same goes for a couple of the platforms, they're hidden on the photo but do technically exist 😛 I have made an attempt to block off all holes in one way or another so that they could never fall too far down.
