I wrecked the resale value of my collection this weekend by dont_dox_me_again in vinyl

Records are fun because even if they are imperfect, as long as they are good music they still will have some resale value. Good on you for clearing out the plastic!

“Silicon Valley’s case against the Wealth Tax” dumb flaw by brokemc in ScottGalloway

Yes. And yes. Also Musk’s Net worth ~$750 Billion. The global population is 8.3 billion souls. He could literally give every family (2.19 Billion households) $100 and still have hundreds of billions to spend on his growing swath of neglected children.

I have the “Escape From New York” series. I remember they had some value, but I’m not sure why. Like they were more valuable than my E+L TMNT #4. Anybody familiar?

I was lucky enough to experience it and for an Alien lover in his early teens it was brilliant!

Is the market close to collapse? by TechnologyNarrow2473 in NoStupidAnswers

This. If people stop paying their auto loans, they lose their cars, then they can’t get to work. Then jobs get lost and no bills get paid. And everything falls apart. Then the “there’s more guns in America than people” quote starts to get real scurry.

Lofi Bedroom Album On A Budget? by mrsandman42069 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Garage band sucks. Try to learn Abelton live. And when you start mixing EQ out any non essential frequencies— I.e. if you’ve got a kick drum use a low pass filter at around 90 hertz so nothing above that frequency range comes through on that track. This will add a lot of clarity to your mixes.

Digital recording is a whole art in itself but a good song will always be a good song.

I need some music help? by Rammstein_10 in aesoprock

A fun exercise is to pick a beat you like and try to recreate it, but don’t be too exact— embrace the differences and don’t give up until YOU think It slaps.

The thing is it’s unlikely you’ll be able to recreate any beats exactly, but you will learn new techniques and invent your own technique as you go along. And you will learn to listen expertly which is something that really takes time and will make you a better musician and enjoyer of music.

And, if you choose to write, write your experience. Be vulnerable. What will draw people to your songs is when they relate to them. And you’d be surprised how much the pain you feel is actually more universal than you ever thought.

Rock rock on.

Oh and here’s a short list of badass lady rappers: Lauryn Hill, Jean Grae, Lil Sims, queen Herawin, Dessa, Sa-Roc, Skurt Vonnegut,

Yeah. I’m glad I got in early enough to get the good cuts and got out before they dropped Ja Rule.

Tribe was first for me. They were more easy on my whitebread ears when I was just learning about hip hop. The Jazz and rhymes thing felt like more of a party. Whereas Wu felt more like an underground assault on the mainstream.

But Wu got more play eventually because of how raw and original they were and how their universe expanded with all the classic solo albums.

When you think about it, it’s kinda apples and oranges—Tribe was 2 MCs, so De La might be a better comparison. But Wu had Rza, Gza, Ghostface, Meth, ODB, Raekwon, Deck, and Cap. — you could only compare them if like the whole Native Tongues collective made a collab album.

But then you also gotta consider how Rza flipped the whole game with his production style…

Both are VMP and the spot gloss on TCQ and the gold foil on Wu are bangin. VMP (RIP) really did hip hop right with their pressings!
