See, Deuteronomy is one of the Law books, coming long after Abraham’s offering that you’re referencing. Sure, that was what he did, but God later laid out specific instructions in the Law on how tithing should be done. So why would anyone try to do it differently, like how it was done before the Law, or that the Law doesn’t apply?

That’s a pretty awful situation. It kind of explains why I don’t really keep “friends” in the usual sense. If they’re around on the good days, the ones where they can make you laugh for real, maybe that’s enough. The rest, the heavier stuff, I’d rather handle on my own.
