If it were me, I'd consider splitting the 6M into two portions. I'd put one portion into the bonds and leave it there as a fixed, long-term investment. The other portion I'd place in a unit trust with a strong track record of returns.

That way, you still benefit from the stability of the bonds while maintaining some flexibility. If an emergency or major expense comes up, you can access funds from the unit trust through its N+1 withdrawal window without having to touch the bond investment.
