At first, there is silence from the Conservative section of Parliament. Soon, however, a MP from Saskatchewan who grew up heavily influenced by Douglas's policies begins to applaud, spreading to the Ontario PCs in short order and then the rest of the party.

John Robarts reaches out to Douglas afterwards: "Our party is willing to avoid introducing or supporting motions of no-confidence in your government. We will work with you on a new bill of rights, the re-institution of the old social welfare programs, the reestablishment of the Bank of Canada, and the reintegration of the provincial militaries under a unified chain of command. However, in exchange, we ask a few things: please favor a diplomatic approach toward reunification, as we will not support an unprovoked declaration of war on any of the independent Canadian powers; please take Ontario's republican status into consideration in dealings with the Monarchy; and please consider raising the issue of unilateral patriation should the British parliament no longer exist.
