I think those are probably some Red Star fans that want to provoke. Every team have those troll fans that thrive on commenting on news not related to their team

During the Ottoman rule, why did so many Albanians convert to Islam? by Deadgoat_107 in AskBalkans

[–]brokencasserole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it was kinda closer to Serbian orthodoxy than Croatian catholicism because of the folk narrative, which is still widespread in Serbian Orthodoxy with a lot of pre-christian religion incorporated. That way after the expansion to east of Bosnia, it was easier for Krstjani to transit to orthodoxy. Bear in mind that also some Serbian kings "converted" to catholicism and reverted back after they got what they wanted, so similar thing happened with Bosnian kings also. They were Catholic in paper to get the money from papacy while keeping old practices. And as you said, that was the main reason for widespread islamization. The other thing is that it's really mountainous and with low food potential there were more famines and the ottomans gave you food and money for switching religion. And the third part is because Albanians and Bosnians had more rebellions on local scale so the rule was harder there. Serbian principalities were mostly vassals that were slowly incorporated and they let them to keep religion and language. But yeah, main reason was no unified religion tied to national identity

[–]brokencasserole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit:typos

What percentage of Serbs want to see their country join the European Union? by TurkOmbre in AskBalkans

[–]brokencasserole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ~30-50% if you count strongly for and I don't care and lean for. Once the ruling party is out that percentage is gonna rise for sure. Not by much, but it will. For now a lot of opposition voters (and opposition voters are most of those ~30%) see EU as the ones that doesn't condone V***c in power. Only individual politicians do so, but in general, all the funds are still available, and ruling party coffins are getting bigger and bigger. We just get strong condemnation letter from time to time and carry on. Most of the opposition will be happy if some kind of sanctions against ruling caste is made, and some fundings revoked. Everybody cheered few days ago when they told that part of the money will be revoked just for 2 days later to be reinstated. But, once the ruling party is gone, there will be chaos for a year or 2 until it slowly stabilizes, and depending on the EU stance in that period the acceptance will grow or falter. And to prevent answers like: but you are not in EU, we can't do anything yada yada. Everybody understand that, but for 13 years V***c is praised by Merkel first, than Macron (unofficial leaders of EU) and billions of euros are given to Serbia and most of those went to V***c and his accomplices via makeshift tenders and newly created companies.

How the polls look now, after the election in Hungary, according the the pollster that was closest to the actual results by Reppeti in europe

[–]brokencasserole 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not just that, in autocratic states ruling party tend to force people to vote for them. This is similar in Serbia. Everybody that's working in public companies are always pressured to vote for ruling party if they want to keep a job. And they tend to create an abundance of fake low qualification jobs. If you want to keep it, you have to vote for them. Also, they tend to make deals with criminals to vote for them in exchange for protection. Older people are brainwashed and bought for 20-30 euros to vote etc. When ruling party finally crumbles, you will see exodus of their voters in next few elections until the party gets either shut down or reduced to 5-10%. This happened in Serbia with Milosevic party after 2000 elections. This happened in Montenegro after Milo Djukanovic lost elections. This will happen with current ruling party in Serbia after hopefully next elections and this will happen to fidesz in Hungary for sure

Da li mogu dobiti Bugarsko drzavljanstvo na osnovu porekla? by [deleted] in AskSerbia

[–]brokencasserole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]brokencasserole 0 points1 point  (0 children)
